Hi Keith That crimping tool in my mind is useless. They are not at all suited to crimp insulated terminals. Charles Charles, you are correct. i already whrote that in the topic of our Belgian forum (see first post of this topic)

Hi Guys.....the RACO crimper seems to work for me; perhaps because I also use a bit of solder :-) Regards to all at LOCSA Keith and CERATOTH

Hi Guys I had the 7 resistors on NIKITA’S printed circuit board checked recently and was told that the big green one was faulty and should be replaced. Unfortunately, no-one could tell me what I should replace it with due to the code being illegible. From what I’d read earlier on and elsewhere I thought it was the one for the alternator but as this is shown at the bottom of instrument cluster diagram in the w/s manual and the green one at the top I wasn’t sure. Danie eventually came to my rescue by removing his cluster – thanks again Danie! - but now I’m being told that the resistor code isn’t a standard value and I’m totally confused . The code reads as follows: C5 – 37 B 5 51 OM plus/minus 10% 99 08 - ∆ Presumably this relates to the 51 ohms 5 watts that Hercules referred to earlier for the alternator but I can’t find this locally although an internet search indicates that it does exist. Earlier on Ronnie indicated something about values having changed and that I should try similar ones. A resistor place in Nelspruit have a 68 Ohm 5watt which the guy assures me will be fine but in JHB they mention a 47 or 56 Ohm with 5 or 10 watts. Bearing in mind that a Russian site I have been browsing recently refers to problems caused by the Green resistor getting too hot, which I think they are overcoming with higher values, what do I need for the lovely Nikita? As always, any assistance would be appreciated. NIKKI

I am quite glad that I have had a look at my instrument panel. The green resistor clearly got very hot in the past, and the main panel has got black burn marks, caused by the hot resistor.
I have now bent the resistor backwards, to prevent future heat damage to the panel.

Hi Nikki
I would use 56 Ohm watts.
I still have to replace the one for my alternator sometime.

Hi Nikki
The 56 Ohm 5watt resistor is well within the range of the original specs from Danie. The tolerance speccced is 10% either way for Ohm Watt should remain at 5 max in my opinion

Hi Nikki
The 2nd globe at the bottom, left, (at your pic) is missing at my Lada's panel. Do you perhaps know which warning light that is suppose to be ?
Because of the missing globe the warning light never came on at my panel, so I do not know which warning light is suppose to come on at that particular spot.

Thanks Nikki!!
Danie just hold the cluster up to a light and you can see what it is.

The one second from the left is for the seat belts Danie - Spikes mentioned it earlier on when I was looking for one to pinch for the 'Check Engine' one missing on my cluster. NIKKI

Hi Guys
I have a new little issue which started last night. When I use my indicator (to the right only) it speeds up, like it would if one of the bulbs have gone. I have checked all of the bulbs and they are OK. The strange thing is that when I accelerate the indicator speed goes back to normal, also when it speeds up the rear lights switch between the indicator and the brake light continuously. Also this only seems to happen when I have my headlights on.
Any ideas guys?
Thanks
Wayne

Clean the contacts and earth on the right light. You have a bad earth. The tail light is using the indicator as a earth.

This actually gives me an idea of what might be wrong with Olga. The left rear brake light only works when it wants to and I have checked the globes and they all seem fine. Is possible that there might be a short or something like that powerfull enough to drain the battery in a case like that?

Riaan you can also clean the contacts. It can get very dusty in there. Preferably use some contact cleaner like Electoclean.

Hi Guys
Thanks the info that was a easy fix, two years back the wife's car had a similar problem that cost me R450 and the problem has reappeared. I think I will be checking all the contact points on her car this weekend. I think the main reason I bought the Niva was because of this website, the cost of motoring just became cheaper.

Hi Wayne
Not sure if you saw the post by Marius in Lada Details recently, he has this month celebrated 12 years with a Niva and estimates his average annual cost for repairs at under R1000 annually and this includes the major service.
I hope to get mine to that region as soon as I sort out her issues from years of neglect.
