Hi All
Since I bought my Lada about four years ago, I am aware of only two sparepart suppliers in South Africa. These two importers obviously played a major role during the past couple of years in order to keep our Ladas on the road, and in the past I supported both of them. I also beleive that it still serves our best interest to support both of them as far as possible - because we might need their services (and spareparts) at any given time.
Having said that, I often wonder whether it would be ethical to reveal the name(s) of reliable Russian sparepart suppliers on this website as well. This is obviously a very sensitive issue, but I often wonder - does it really serve the best interest of individual Lada owners, trying to "protect" the existing sparepart importers at all cost ?
In the past the contact details of the two local sparepart importers have been revealed openly on this website - as far as I know, free of any costs. So I do beleive that this website definately generated some financial gain for them.
My question in this regard is - If the existing importers do not have any intention to support this website in some or other way, would it still be unethical to reveal the name(s) of reliable Russian sparepart suppliers here ?
Any thoughts (from you as well Kobus) in this regard ?
Danie

The LOCSA web site and this forum is for the benefit of Lada owners. You are free to name any supplier. However this space should not be abused for free advertising.

Sorry to inform you, but the inport cost, as described in my previous post (now deleted) was not correct. During my previous import from Russia I never bothered to get spesific detail regarding Import duties and taxes, and yesterday I asked a staff member at work (who is involved with imports) to get specific import details from the shipment company who handles our imports . Today I decided rather to contact the shipment company myself.........just to find out that my (now deleted) information was not correct............ This would be the cost involved (excluding air, or sea freight) if a new Gearbox has been ordered from Russia - based on yesterday's Rand / US Dollar exchange rate (R7.43 = US$1.00): Price of Gearbox : US$600 = R4458.00 The Taxman will claim : 20% Import Duty on R4458.00 = R891.60 Plus: 14 % VAT on R4458.00 =R624.12 Total Import Tax + VAT =R1515.72 Cost of Gearbox + Taxes: R4458.00 + R1515.72 =R5973.72 Please note that this price does not include transport cost - could be varified with Russian supplier.Import tax + VAT is payable on date of delivery / reception. Sorry

I have removed Valerij Nekrasov's e.mail addres from this website, to prevent spammers from getting hold of his address.
Any member who wants to order parts from Graf Corvet in Russia, and want to make use of Valerij's services, can just PM me for his e. mail address.

I don't think you will ever regret getting hold of that second Lada Mike.
I already saved a lot of money - just by rebuilding some of the extra components (bought cheaply from a previous owner) myself, and keeping these components in stock - just in case........
So if you do not sell everything, those extra components will keep you mobile for many years ahead.......

Hallo Dries.
Welcome to the forum. You can also try brake and clucth centre or a brake specialist, they should be able to supply a replacement reservoir for you.
Regards.

I have added Ventz Lazarov (from Pietermaritzburg) to the list of "official" Spare Part importers to the fist page of this thread.
Ventz find himself in Pietermaritzburg, and imports quality parts from Bulgaria, Germany, France, and Spain.

With reference to the availability of Spare Parts at the local Agents - just some thoughts regarding a possible price difference between parts which are imported from Russia, and "better quality" parts which are imported from other European countries like Germany, France, and Spain :
The weakness of our currency against the Euro will obviously cause higher prices on parts which are imported from countries other than Russia, and owners should be aware of the fact that it might indeed be better to buy better quality parts locally.
During previous (work related) visits, to Italy, France, and Holland I became fully aware of the fact that the weakness of our currency do have a huge negative effect on South African citizens.
The moral of this story - the local Agents should not always be blamed for high spare part prices ..............it all depends on quality, and where those parts come from..........

Hi Danie
Ventz told me that - besides the above Western European countries - he still gets most of his part from Bulgaria.
The old Eastern European countries which include Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and the Czech Republic are still way cheaper than the traditional Western European countries. Mainly because the have large stocks of cheap Lada parts imported from Russia. They all use the same currency.
For instance Ventz imports the SEAT Supermirafiori waterpump from Spain - which has an extra fin that needs to be cut. This is obviously a quality part and a much better design than the Russian pump. However you would pay R1463.25 for it whilst you can get the Russian part for around R500.
Chinese copies are even cheaper - but I would stay away. I would always advice to go for the best quality you can buy - however the original Russian parts are good value for money esp if looked after properly.
Regards Marius

Due to Ventz Lazarov's involvement on this forum, I have listed his name in the first position as spare part supplier in South Africa.
Ventz's positive involvement on this Forum will obviously help to keep all of us going, and again, I hereby wish to make an urgent appeal to all members to support him as far as possible.

A "new" supplier to seriously consider is: >> Neil Chowney Lada Parts UK www.Lada.co.uk07876 387069 Ari ordered a front CV from them for 50 Pounds and got it 4 days later! I have also made use of them before and found their service and advice excelent and their prices very fair - esp if you take the strength of their currency into consideration. The nice thing is that language is not a problem as it can be in certain parts of the EU and Russia. Regards Marius
