Hi Marius / Ronnie From the posts I've just been reading under 'Strange Noises' it would appear that Lada owners continue to be ripped off locally by certain spares suppliers and they need to know ALL the options available to them. In this regard, although Pavel has been mentioned and praised by several members, and there was talk a while ago about including him in the list of Spare Parts Suppliers, I don't see his details and feel he should be included. Graf Korvet's details (Valeriy) still appear but as he hasn't been operating for several months, and his EBay shop appears to have closed, he should probably be removed to avoid confusion. NIKKI

Hi Nikki
Very good point Nikki. We were waiting for some details with regard to Pavel to be finalized. I have not received the go ahead but I would think that it won't be long before Pavel can me regarded as an official spare part supplier.

Hi Marius
I have not used Pavel, but the members who have seem very happy. I think he can be included in the list now.

NIKKI Hi Nikki I need to perhaps just clarify my views. The local spares suppliers have a place in the grand scheme of things. I have bought the bulk of my spares from two suppliers in KZN and have found their availability of spares very good. I prefer to use Ventz locally as I like him and he has also helped me out the dwang in ways that overseas suppliers NEVER could have. Looking at the spares that Ventz supplies - It is either OEM or better than OEM (Clatch master cylinder without the brittle plastic bit) Ventz has customers who are happy to pay for his time, expertise and spares prices as they know what they get. I have seen a Lada from Mooi River at Ventz with over 300 000 km on the clock without any break downs. (Ventz can clarify the exact details). I for one will continue to buy certain spares from Ventz and also order spares I am prepared to wait for from Pavel etc. The point to remember though is we have choice. We choose who we buy from. Regards Vincent

Thank you for your views, Vincent, but apart from your point about ‘choice’ I’m not really sure how relevant they are to my post . Anyway, as you correctly point out, we do have a choice and by requesting that Pavel’s details be added to the official list of Spare Part Suppliers I’m simply trying to make sure that members are made aware of ALL of them. I accept that most regulars may already have Pavel’s details but occasional visitors and new members may not and hence my request that he be added to the official list where he can be found. NIKKI

Hi Nikki
My post was aimed at the occasional visitors who may have got the impression that all the local suppliers are sharks and to be avoided. In addition it was a further clarification of my views posted under the "strange noises" thread.
Sorry if it has caused confusion.
Regards Vincent

Gee Nikki, You really baffled me with your reply to Vincents post - I thought he gave a perfect reply to a post mentioning possible reliable spares suppliers (who should be listed or not to the benefit of all Niva owners)! Vroumense!! Ek sal hulle nooit verstaan nie! Vincent, I can not agree more with you. You experienced first hand the benefit of a Niva committed local 'dealer" with experience to die for without being a rip-off artist. If he charge a bit more (even a lot more sometimes) than what you pay when you import directly it surely does not make him an otter in the river! People like Nikki (a woman) and many, many Niva owners that never ever seen the inside of a roller bearing, let alone know that you get bearings and bearings, should rather stick with Ventz, Mike or Hercules. What a privilege! Example: My neighbour, an old man took his stock standard 318 BWM for a service before going away for a few days (never missed a service). The BMW expert in town charged him R800.00 rand for an oil service. He drove his car back from his vacation with a terrible noise in the engine (apparently a hydraulic lifter). He booked the car at the same BMW expert to repair the noise. They will obviously have to open the engine and again, yes, again replace all eight the lifters (yes again - the engine only done 200 000 km's since brand new in the hands of the old man)! I give you only one guess how many thousands it will cost the old man (pensioner) this time around. Ok. you are right. Moral of the story; if he drove the BMW to Ventz for the service it would have cost him less (Springs to Pm/burg). If he had it serviced from the beginning driving the car to Ventz every time for a service (assuming Ventz know nothing about a BMW), he would have saved a fortune and his car would have been in a better condition than now! And Ventz is being made out to charge a lot for Niva spares (by some). They are barking up the wrong tree! Cars are not like woman but there are similarities; you should just love woman and not try to understand them, if you want the marriage to last. You also do not have to understand cars but you should love, trust and understand the mechanic of the car more than the car if you are a woman or not working on cars yourself!. Imagine the old man of my story above being more concerned of importing hydraulic lifters himself than finding a reputable service station. Trust is everything. Trust in people, it is. Trust in things, more often than not, futile. Regards, Fanus

Trust in grease monkies is like my virginity - lost it many, many years ago That's the very reason , (lack of trust) which often makes me saying things which I deeply regret afterwards. Danie Oh - I don't actually associate with the description "grease monkey" - my own son is an Audi technician in the USA . He has been "hand picked" by the Audi Training Centre in the US who is involved in "head hunting" each year - so I am quite sure my son is not a "grease monkey" .

Hi all
As some of you may already know Jan from Belgium has given me the details of a guy named Gabor in Hungary who supplies Lada parts. Hein has made use of his services before and highly recommends Gabor for his excellent service and prices. In order to save this guy from spammers etc. you can PM me for his details.

Just for the record - a few comments about Pavel: Just after he (Pavel) has been introduced to this Forum by Charles, Pavel has been approached by one of the local Suppliers in order to sell his (Pavel's) parts to our local owners. Pavel did some "homework", and was not prepared to sell parts to any local Supplier only - which I think, needs to be applauded. It would obviously be more practical an easy for Pavel to sell parts to a local Supplier in bulk - but he decided to assist our local owners in getting hold of more affordable spare parts. So if anyone out there do wonder why I am pushing so hard to "promote" Pavel at this forum, there is no need to wonder any longer - he is clearly loyal to our local owners, and to my mind he deserves loyalty from all our members as well. That's great and I am sure that Pavel is getting quite a lot of support from our members and he has been listed as an "official" supplier. Gabor is very new to us but already has good credentials from Jan in Belgium as Gabor is their club's official supplier. In fact Hein has been making use of Gabor for some time and is raving about his prices and service. I am not pushing Gabor, I am merely adding him to an ever growing list of spare part suppliers - which is great!
