Hi Jaco
The problem with the Donaldson is the amount of space it takes especially if you still want a spare under the bonnet.

The donaldson has the benefit of having a cyclonic seperator to spin out the bulk of the dirt prior to the filter. Make space for the filter

Hi Jaco The problem with the Donaldson is the amount of space it takes especially if you still want a spare under the bonnet. Ronnie And also the small matter of the price of the filter element itself. You really have to do serious dry weather dust driving and a hell of a lot of km to justify the expense. It will work out far cheaper to use K&Ns or replacing the std air filter more regularly Spikes

Hi Spikes
I agree, I personally would fit a K@N. I used them one on Ari`s and it was very sucessful and cost efective.

Hi Ronnie, The only hassle that I have with K&N is the possibility of over oiling the "sponge" element body which can send sensors in the fueling system bonkers(in NIVA it really only applies to the TBI)

Hi Danie ,After reading all this info about suitable fillters for your fiat i think the safest way is to stick with as close to standard as possible but this is all ways a matter of personal choice i guess.Cheers Trev .

Hi Marius
I agree try to stay as close to standard as possible. At least the K&N fits in the standard filter housing.

Thanks for all comments - I already tried to get hold of a Donaldson filter during the previous months, and have received two quotes from two different local suppliers: 1. The first supplier quoted something like R2 600.00 for a complete unit. 2. The second supplier quoted about R1600.00 for a Housing without a filter element. The import cost of the K&N filter is about US$92.00 - compared to the prices of Donaldson filters, I guess that is quite a bargain . I have used (and still use) K&N filters during the past 15 or 16 years, and I am quite use to clean these filters quite often. So I have decided rather to stick to a K&N filter on the Fiat engine as well. Anyway, the K&N filters do last for many years if handled with care. Regards Danie

If one really likes the sound, the filters can also be mounted inside the cabin . Filter mounted in front of the Gear lever: Filter and Turbo mounted right next to the steering wheel: Pics has been taken at today's National 4x4 Challenge at Mountain View Entertainment Center, Pietermaritzburg. Hi Fanus
Regarding your comments about a Throttle Body intake at another thread - I am currently considering a complete Fuel Injection swap from a 2000cc Fiat engine.
At the moment I still need to make sure that the 2000cc intake manifold can be used - the distributors on the 2000cc engines are located at the rear of the engine block, while the distributors on the 1608 engines are located at the front - there is a possibility that the distributor on the 1608 engines might touch the Intake Manifold.
The ECU will obviously have to be tweaked for the 1608 engine, and I guess this should be possible ?

Hi All Danie's first picture above refers. I see that a Fire Stryker extinguishing unit has been fitted and assumingly passed scrutineering by marshals. Charles was going to follow up with the agent in PE about the SABS approval. Anu=y news on that.

I have sent my extra set of coil springs to a local firm who specialize in zinc electroplating - the first pic has been taken when the coils were on it's way to the firm. Danie Attachments:

Wow that is clean. I want to have my coils retensioned as my one rear coil is badly sagged.
I currently have the front coils from Ari's Niva (the ones Ronnie had made) in my Niva. They are just a bit hard if the vehicle is unladen so I will refit my std ones sometime and see what the difference is. Does anyone know of a cheap fix for my sagged rear coil? I have about 4 cm worht of spacers on it but its still lower.

Hi Charles
They have charged me R200.00 - but I think the normal price would be higher. They do a lot of work for us at work, and I visit them every now and then.
They also had to sandblast the coils to clean it properly.
Any local owner who would like to contact them, this is the details:
Saayman Danks Electroplating CC 63 Harden Avenue Seaview Durban.
Tel. 031 4656858,- ask for Vishay.

Danie, I would suggest that you write the e-mail like this:
vishay(at)sdelelectroplating(dot)co(dot)za
Otherwise bots/spiders will pick it up on the net and spam the living daylights out of the poor guy. That is if they have not found a way past what I have suggested. The best is probably to give e-mails via PM's/e-mails.

Got my original Lada engine's Cylinder Head back from Clive (C.G. Engineering , Canada Road, Umbilo, Durban) today . ;D The old Valve Guides have been removed , new ones have been installed , the valve Seats have been refaced, and the Cylinder Head has been chemical cleaned, skimmed, and pressure tested: I am officially on holiday now, ;D and hope to assemble my Lada's original engine during this holiday as well. Hopefully I will find a good Lada body to install a perfectly rebuilt Lada engine in the near future..... Danie
