If they are balanced separately , then they will still be balanced when assembled.

Which is why you insist on proof of balancing when you have any flywheel skimmed.

Which is why you insist on proof of balancing when you have any flywheel scimmed. Yes - that makes sense. The guy also explained to me that the density of steel differs at different locations at any given flywheel. At some areas the density will be more (more weight), and at other areas the density will be less (less weight). Thats why balancing "dents / holes" will be found at different locations on Flywheels of the same Brand - like on the two Fiat Flywheels in my possession. When a Flywheel get skimmed, some steel gets removed - and I guess the different density in different areas of the removed steel will disturb the original balance settings on the flywheel. Danie

The "scimmed" looked funny:) On a lighter note: Farmer Jones(he exists)( dit is sy bynaam)wanted to smack the fitter he found drilling a big hole in the back of his Isuzu bakkie's flywheel after he had it skimmed.

Hi Charles Do you know whether the newer Fiat engines (Uno , Pallio, etc.) have Cam Belt pulleys which might look like this : The one seal on my pulley is damaged, and Bearing Man does not carry stock of any replacement bearings which could be used. The ID of the bearing is 25 mm, and the OD of the pulley is about 70.8 mm. I initially thought that the bearing has been pressed into an outer ring, but it looks like the outer ring is part of the Bearing. Danie

Danie unfortunatly I have never seen one like that. It is also much bigger than the ones on the newer engines.

Thanks for the info Trev - fortunately the Fiat engine deal included a spare Fiat flywheel, which is still in perfect condition. I,ve also got a spare Lada engine block with flywheel - sounds like it might be worthwhile to handle the flywheel with more respect..... As far as the Fiat engine is concerned - I've just discovered that e.Bay is indeed very useful . Regards Danie

Which is why you insist on proof of balancing when you have any flywheel skimmed. The guys in town who skimm our flywheels do not have access to a balancing machine. Had one skimmed today again without any problems. I agree it is best to do it, but if they cant its not the end of the world. Calla

As far as I know the Israelis were also involved with the CMH import of Ladas into SA but I think Ventz will know better than me.

Quite a few different Fiat components are listed at the seller' e.Bay store, so I guess Fiats parts should be quite common in Israel.

Thanks Trev - the oil cap still needs to be electro galvanized, like the tappet cover nuts. Also still have to find a nice looking air cleaner for the carb, then I will be happy .
Still haven't made up my mind about the color for the Niva , but I will have to make a decision very soon.... I guess it will have to suit the engine color . ;D

Bought myself a fairly good looking Roof Rack for R199.95 at Cash Crusaders yesterday - not as nice as some of the racks I have seen at this forum, but I thought at that price I couldn't let it go.
The rack was too big to be transported with the Focus, so I will collect it with one of the work's bakkies during this week.

HiDanie
That should be a good buy as you can`t buy much steel for R200.

That is a bargain Danie. I was almost able to get a aluminium roof rack from a disco from the scrap metal place. When I got there it was allready cut into pieces. They also cut up a working warn winch to get the aluminuim pieces off. Idiots!
I think I should go visit my local cash crusaders this week. Who knows maybe I will also be this lucky.

My R199.95 Roof Rack: During this week I have stripped the old paint, and the rack has been re-painted - which included an undercote of black oxide paint. Danie

Dont touch any performance filters as they are more suitable to street cars they are prone to clogging up with dust if installed in an 4wd stick with a paper filter

Hi Trevor
About 99% of my driving is on tar roads, so the clogging does not really bother me.
During my farming days I have used K&N filters on scrambler bikes as well - one just needs to wash, clean, and oil these filters more often during off-road conditions.

Hi Danie and Trevor
I used a K@ N in the dust of Botswana and never had a problem. When it is very dry there the dust is unbelievable.
