Hi Charles / Spikes
Thanks for the pics / info.
I assume the electric hydraulic pump starts running when the ignition gets switched on ?
Would a bigger A/H battery be needed when an electric unit like that gets installed ?
Many thanks.

Hi Danie
On the two Polo's and Fiesta that I had, the pump only started working once the engine was running. Only thing that kicked in with only ign on was the fuel pump.

Thanks Spikes - our Focus also has power steering, and I guess it works the same way . I regard the Focus as "the wife's" car - so I am not really interested in how it actually works. Danie

Hi Danie
As spikes says it only runs when the engine is running.

The Sidekick wheels Caps were slightly rusted, so I started shopping around for new ones - without any luck. The Sidekick Caps seem to be an odd size, so I decided to send the Caps to a local firm which specialize in Electro Galvanizing, and Chrome plating. The firm as removed the rust, and the Caps has been re-chromed - it looks brand new again: Contact details of the firm: Saayman Danks Electroplating CC, 63 Harden Ave, Seaview, Durban. Danie

Very neat, Danie. Did they manage to get the dent out of the one cap?

Thanks Spikes / Charles.
Spikes, no, the slight dent is still there. The dent is so slight, I decided rather to leave it as is .
I hope all owners with Sidekick rims do take note of this - the Sidekick caps are not freely available, and owners should rather make sure that the caps do not get rusted badly. Owners should also take note that it gets rusted at the inside very easily.

No, Rome will probably never be done . My modifications has come to a definite end, due to some good news from my little granddaughter in the USA: Our intentions are to be present at the little brother's / sister's birth, so from now on we need to save for flight tickets. Danie

Thanks Charles / Conrad. -
The price of two flight tickets will be more than the price of another decent Lada, but blood runs thicker than petrol.....

I might not be keeping the project Charles, but at the moment I am not considering getting rid of any my extra components.
During our local meeting on Saturday, the guys have shown some interest in helping each other to get the Ladas up and running as soon as possible after a break-down, and my intention is to keep certain components (i.e. a fully rebuilt Gearbox) as "standby" - just in case of need by any of the guys who do not use their Ladas for business purposes.
This is still early days, and should there not be real interest in our local meetings in future, I might change my mind.

Hi Ruan / Dewald Ruan, at the moment I do not have any intention of getting rid of my extra components - I am committed to be involved at the KZN group, and maybe we could help each other in some or other way . Dewald, please don't call me "oom" - an "oom" is an old guy which stands with one foot on a grave, and the other foot on a "piesang skil". An am not there yet. Danie

Danie. I do hope u keep your project. A niva with power steering and xflow engine wil be worth while building. Even if it takes years to complete.
