Hi Everyone..... I am back....thank you all for the concern! I hope all of you have a wonderful and BLESSED 2011!!!! I finally received the bearing kit on the 16th of december.....We opened up the gearbox and found that one of the gears are broken...as far as we can see....we did not open the whole box....only the flap panel on the bottom of the box! Now....I got a quote from Ventz....but I think the photo is a little misleading.....but I trust his judgement...the two gears alone would cost me around R4k? !!!!! This is alot of money as I have seen overhauled boxes on the net for about R5k.... I will post the pic for you guys to see.... Any help on finding a cheap alterenative or another box in good condition will help....PLEASE! Kind Regards Juran

Hi Juran
Due to Jan's refusal to sell certain gearbox parts to me I was forced to order gearbox parts from Russia and also the EU and UK. That was actually a blessing in disguise. Much much cheaper and the waiting period was not that long.
I have also heard that Chris Swales prices are reasonable - maybe you can give him a call?
You should actually inspect the whole box - all the bearings are hidden from your view as well as the 5th /reverse gear components.
Do you know what gear has been damaged?
Regards Marius

Ok I see you have removed the gear leaver - showing the 5th gear. Is the 5th gear jumping or is it noise that you hear?
From your previous post I gather it is noise only?

Yes I can see it has been through a rough patch and probably also causing alot of noise. The bolt at the end of that gear could have come undone or the bearing is shot. I have that gear for you - I will take some pics for you a little later. The 5th gear is also damaged - but I don't think I can help you there - mine has got some damage from a broken spring. It might work but I can't gaurantee it. That particuar 5th gear was brand new

Hi Juran I did PM you in this regard. The reason why I want to sell is because I did replace all of my 5th gear components with the new Niva parts. The only part that I have my doubts about is the 5th gear itself. It is actually brand new but the spring came undone - it did not damage the gears but you will see the marks clearly. ANYONE THAT THINKS IT MIGHT NOT WORK - PLEASE SAY SO! The syncro sleeve is brand new and not used - I did not use it because it needs a bit of machining for hub to slide easily so I just used the old one instead. The syncro hub is used but virtually new - this part Jan refused to sell to me - and if he did it was very expensive. I think around R800 at the time. Probably much more now? The rest of the parts are used but in good nick. Not included is a slightly warn fork x2 - but it should still work fine if you need it. A new one should cost around R200? Let me know if you need anything. Regards Marius

Here is a pic of the new replacement parts. As you can see the shaft comes with splines - the key and the parts that needs it became redundant.

Jeez- you had me worried that you'd never come back! Mike and Chairman Maorius will sort you out for far less that 4k, I'm sure.

Hi Juran Welcome back - I hope you get the box sorted soon. 4K is way too much for 2 gears. A complete, brand new 5 speed Toyota gearbox sells for about 4k at Autozone - so I think I now know what to do in future. Danie

Much much cheaper and the waiting period was not that long. Hi Marius Jan's refusal to sell parts to you seems to be a blessing to all of us. As far as I'm concerned, the Agents can keep their overpriced parts for themselves and use it as fishing sinkers. Importing spareparts ourselves seems to be a much better solution. Danie

Hi Danie
Obviously we all would prefer to deal with a local agent that is reliable AND reasonably priced. But it is good to know that if one avenue closes there is an alternative route to take.
I would however advise our members to be very careful when ordering from eBay.
Regards Marius

Hi Ronnie Sadly the easy answer is - no I have not since the beginning of 2007. The answer I would much rather give is - yes I have been supporting him since forever! A simple concept that seems to fail these businessmen Regards Marius

Hi Juran
There is also a possibility that your reverse idle gear also picked up some damage - I can help you with that one too - also still in near perfect condition.
But first things first - you will have to open the box and inspect everything - it would be well worth the effort.
Follow all the steps in the manual to the letter - 2 exceptions - remove the gearleaver like you did and block the hole with a clean rug.
- And when you remove the 5th/reverse gear housing. The housing comes off easier when you leave it in 2nd gear - you can always put it back in neutral afterwards. Do the same when you refit the housing.
Let us know what you find and how things are going.
Regards Marius
