The Valeo clutch is recommended by Hercules and is A LOT CHEAPER than the original if you buy local - perhaps you can give Ventz a call and see what he quotes. The original is probably the better one to fit.

Hi All.
The Valeo clutch in my Lada done +- 66000km and still the same as when fitted. For the cost and km I get out off this clutch, I will fit another one when this one packed up. Still got a lot off km left in this cheappy
Darryn, do not worry the clutch will last.
Charles, you can fit 3x Valeo cluthes for the price of the original Lada clutch
Regards.
Hercules.

Het Comradskis
Well, it turns out I got the LUK clutch instead- misunderstood the Centpart guy. It's a bit cheaper than the Valeo, but as far as I know it's still a flippen good clutch. After being blitzkrieged by "our friend" a couple of months back on what's what in Lada Land, I've done some research: lots of talking with other spanner heads. No one I've spoken to has ever, ever run down the Valeo brand- in fact, if you read the Dakar rally Prep document, a Valeo clutch is recommended. So I'm pretty confident of what I paid for, as it seems that the well known brands do not make k@k parts.
As for my Lada, the fly wheel had to be skimmed. Apparently it looked like the winter surf off the Durban coast. Sigh. At least now it's done. So, I can't go throw it around a dust road somewhere. Maybe next weekend...
But I miss my car!

Hi all
We`ve fitted a LUK clutch in Neville`s Lada this week, the quality doesnt look bad but the genuine looks much much more durable I like the Thrust pad on the original`s pressure plates fingers and the thrust bearing looks more rigid. Neville paid R1280 for the LUK clutch kit.
We are nearly done with the drive train on his BABY. Next will be the wheelbearings and the front shocks
Cheers

The thrust pad on the Valeo thrust plate look the same as the original pad thrust pad on the Russian thrust plate. If you compare the original clutch kit to the Valeo kit the only thing that differs is the name and part numbers stamped on the items.

Hi Hercules
If the Valeo looks the same I would definately recommend it - has it got the same amount of springs? The LUK might be a little lightweight from Duane's description - but only time will tell.

I also noticed the LUK's more "lightweight" design... But I got it for R1140, which is a great deal better than buying genuine parts (in the short term). I'll let everyone know how it holds up.

Well Darryn if it works fine it will be great news for many Niva owners. Fortunately I have a complete spare Russian one after you know who told me I had to replace it some years ago.

Hi Marius.
At the time when I fitted the clutch I did compare it with what I took out off the Lada. The pressure plate and release bearing look the same and even the pressure plate had the same amount of springs. The valeo clutch plate was more heavy duty as the plate I removed as the plate were a LUK clutch plate.
The Valeo pressure plate also look the same as the picture in the Lada manual.
Regards.

Hi All It is easy to say this clutch kit is much better than the the next one but very often there is the matter of finances . The only advice I can give is buy the best you can afford at the time and then look after it and do not abuse it. Ronnie

Hi Guys
Just to come to the defense of LUK, since they are across the road from where I work and I have spend some time on their production floor. LUK is part of the Schaeffler Group that manufactures FAG, INA and LUK. They mostly manufacture for the OEMs as do we at Federal Mogul (Payen). There is absolutely no difference in the manufacturing process or material that is used to produce aftermarket or OEM parts. Sometimes the customer do require their OE stamp, be it Ford, VW, GM etc to be on the parts instead of LUK.
It might not be the same in the case of the Lada as the clutch that fit the Lada is also specified for other vehicles and that will be the reason why it looks more "flimsy".
I had my clutch plate custom made just to be safe as they can fail from "ruk en pluk" when 4x4ing. The pressure plate normally fail from wear.

Buy the way.
Has anybody ever had their speedo drive fail? I traced the problem to my TC, but since I use my Lada every day I do not want to take the cap on the side of the TC off unless I have some idea of what could be wrong or what could fall out when the housing is removed.

Hi guys
I replaced clutch on a hardbody today. A vg30. The standard, factory fitted, clutch even has the luk stamp on. But most of the euro cars gets fitted with valeo clutches.

Hi All
As the T/C is out at the moment I am AGAIN replacing the rear gearbox seal as it is leaking. I replaced this recently with an aftermarket seal. This time I have ordered a genuine one from Ventz. I will report back later on how this seal does. Hopefully I will have no more problems this time.

Ronnie does the output shaft have play on it? Important question - if the play is excessive, no oil seal on this planet will prevent an oil leak. Danie

Also is the output flange very smooth where it runs on the seal? Another thing, does it go in tight thru the seal? Charles

Hi Ronnie Sorry to see that you've got some trouble with the seal - again My guess is that your output shaft is probably not 100% straight - well something is just not quite right If I remember correctly - you did not overfill? Regards Marius

Hi Danie and Charles
The gearbox output shaft has no play and the flange where the seal runs is in perfect condition. When I get the new seal I will let you know how tight it is on the flange.

Hi Marius.
I am hoping it is the quality of the after market seal which is the problem. Since I fitted the seal I have have not overfilled the gear box.
