I think Hercules or Ronnie know of one, but Ventz asks R98.60 for one.

Jislaaik... How did you get that right? Just from the boot being broken?

Hi Darryn
I dont think it is from the boot being broken. I also DON'T think it is from the lift or the wheels as I have only done 50km with them. The right one is was worse, I replaced it last year and it was in 2 pieces.

Hi Ari
Yes it does. I will even go as far as to say if you take that one to a cv spesialist that they will be able to repair it. You might want to consider that. It will not be as good as new, but it will be a working spare.

Ari this might be a stupid question but with both your cv's failing now it makes me wonder. Can this maybe be the result of running with wide tyres. Your Niva has mostly been running with 215's for the last ten years hey?

Ari it's me sticking my neck out again ;D You posted pics when you lifted the car - only my opinion - if you look at the angles your CV's had to work no wonder they broke Don't think it's the tyres though - but they will cause other problems. Regards Marius

Marius I broke the right one BEFORE I lifted the Lada, and now 50km later the left one looks bad? Ari

That is most unusual - was there enough grease in?
But I must say the angle would put enormous strain on the CV - but maybe someone with more expertise on the matter can comment here?

Hi Chock full of grease, the only reason I pulled the side shaft was that the inner boot was torn and needed replacing, otherwise I wouldn't have even known. Ari

The cage can go in the wrong way, so maybe that caused the overloading and eventual cracking. A lift wont bother the CVs, saying it does is the same as saying "If you always drive straight your CVs will last longer, corners will just wreck them"

Hi Bobby My thinking here is that the angle already puts a lot of stress - cornering or playing in the rough will make matters much worse If for whatever reason you would want to do a fairly serious lift - I would go for a solid axle. You have to put a question mark on why the two CV's broke in such a short period of time - something is not right. AND Charles - lifting the Niva by a "small margin" would be acceptable - like the guy did in Spain. BUT even in doing that you will have to make certain adjustments/corrections to an already perfect setup just to get the road holding back to where it was. Lifting it for the sake of doing extreme off roading is another matter entirely. However having said all of that - I am no technical expert on these matters - these are just my thoughts on the matter. Regards Marius

Hi Marius
I won`t go as far as to state the lift caused the CV damage but it will certainly contribute to it. If you are going to use your Niva for every day use keep the tyres at a maximum of 195 and forget about a lift as you will never need it.

The CVs dont know what is putting an angle on them, cornering or a lift.a bigger angle is put on during cornering. Suspension travel is the same unless the bumpstops have been cut off. The fact that the cage can go in either way would be my area of concern, it is not parallel.

Hi Bobby
The thing that causes the most damage to cv's is popping the clutch. If you drive the car with respect I dont think a lift will damage the cv's.

Ari I got the coils today. Thank you. Want to have them sandblasted and then spray them white.
Please have a look at the drag link and tie rod order.

Another question, the drag link has a bend in it. Does the bend goes to the back if front?
Hope it makes sense.

Hi Charles
The bends go upwards so that it can clear the diff housing.
