Welcome back Sakkie - good to hear from you again.
I agree - I would realy like to have at least one Limited Slip Diff in my Lada..........a LSD at the rear axle should be perfect.
Maybe one day in future when I am big..........
Regards
Danie

That will be nice, just think of the long faces at a offroad venue when you out run some serious competition.

I have just got my spare diff centre converted to LSD for the rear of my Niva, 550 AUD converted here in Melbourne, too easy. I havnt put it in the Niva yet but am planning one for the front too. I have a few trips planned and LSDs are a godsend I reckon

Hi Bobby I noticed that Ladaworld sells LSDs for 709.02 AUD : www.ladaworld.com/index.php?currency=AUD&cPath=2&sort=2aI guess your LSD is from Russia, and that Andy sells them in Australia ? Whenever you install the LSD in your Niva in future, it would be appreciated if you could give us some feedback about offroad performance. Regards Danie

Thanks for the info Bobby.
I wonder if a professional Lada Limited Slip conversion could be done in South Africa - and if so, at what price ?
If anyone knows, please let us know.

Danie

Close up, shims and drain holes?
I cant turn any of the gears on the bench they seem too stiff, Springs are fully compressed with shims at one end of each, I hope to whack it in tonight depending on the outside influence of reality!

Bobby, I am no expert at all, but I do'nt think one should be able to turn those inner gears by hand at all - as far as I know those inner gears and plates works more or less like a clutch, and will only allow some slip once it comes under huge stress.
As long as you are ably to turn the pinnion shaft by hand, I think everything should be fine.............if not, something does'nt sound right. But again, I am not an expert at all.

Danie

I was just giving a bit of feed back, but yeah I think you are right about the clutch. I was under the impression when I first sussed the conversion out it was going to be a LSD of the type where the axles are not locked till under a situation where they are needed as opossed to the type which are looked usually and let some slip occur, I forget their respective names but I am sure you know what I mean

Penrite 85/140 LSD oil Phil reckons so thats what it will get. It is also cheap and easy to get! Bursons $10 a litre!! before trade discount!! I wasn't worried about it no turning I was just having a titu before it goes into the diff housing forever and someone asks about it.

Hi Bobby
Any possibility of getting exact measurements of those inner LSD components - without dismantling everything ?
I am quite sure that the inner components has probably been skimmed to make it fit in the Niva housing - so outer dimensions of those "square" metal blocks could be very important. There seem to be spring spacers as well - thickness will obviously be very important as well.
If you are happy with this LSD, I am sure more Niva owners might be interested in getting hold of these kits - maybe installing it themselves..........
Regards
Danie P.S. Should you prefer to protect your supplier's knowledge and not to reveal any details, I will respect your decision.

It sounds exiting Bobby. Does the diff make any noise when steering around corners ?

No noise I just drive it like normal and it drive like normal, on real slippery hard packed clay there is now some under steer but the rest of the time it behaves like it did before. It just gobbles up slippery/rutted hills now it is amazing!!!!!! I seem to be able to think less while driving because its harder to get stuck!!! Next plan... some mother gunter/man eater/treeclimber/knobbly tyres...winter soon, plus I staked two on the weekend!
I dont think this type of setup would be too hard to create for the backyard shed Rambo,The blocks are held in by the through shaft and apply spring pressure to the side gears(shimmable) Simple but not easy?
