Just did a quick search about Dunlop Super Grippers and Symex Extreme trackers - the Dunlops do not seem to be available in SA, and Symex might perhaps be available at LA Sport.
Jan do not seem to like "knobbies" on a Lada at all - I haven't seen any negative comments about knobbies on any international Niva websites though.
Did anyone ever experience, or know about problems when knobbies were fitted on a Lada ?
Regards
Danie

That is one sick sick looking tyre. Where can one buy them?

Private imports might be a better (but expensive) option.
I am not sure whether LA Sport will carry stock of more skinny tyres - they seem to be quite expensive, and rather seem to cater for the yuppie market.

www.tyresdirectuk.co.uk/xcart/home.php?cat=254Try these pomme dudes. Those simex in the niva suitable size are not really as agressive as the photo sugests, but still hard core. Those dulops were made in Australia but the last tyre factory here shut down 3 months ago.

Converted to ZAR, it looks if tyres are a lot cheaper in the UK - compared to SA.
I think imported tyres will be heavily taxed though - to protect the local manufactures.

Nice..............the tyres and the Lada as well. I must say - with tyres like that there is no need for bigger wheels to make a Lada look impressive. Danie

Its a great thing, the little bit of understeer has caught me out a few times but the traction with diff lock in is incredable!!!!!! We have a lot of areas down here with 50/50 sand and soil, these used to be a bit iffy before the LSD but now its simply keep RPM up and just charge through, on slippery hard packed mud parts the Niva just seems to get traction from nowhere. Quite a confidence booster! Winter soon thats the time when traction is at a premium, but i'll have my new tyres by then (50mm lift went in tonight)

Mind you our trip up to the snow in a few months is scaring me, I think this type of LSD will cause nothing but trouble on windy icey roads I reckon

I assume less spring shims could be used, or the inner "square" blocks can be skimmed down if one wants more slip on the diff? This might eliminate undertsteer to a great extend as well.
Obviously not a DIY job.............

I hope running in Ronnie but I think the small shaveing ones are from that but the big ones, I think not. In regards to jetting over to SA, I am still sussing out the Australian design regs regarding cars and airbags/steering colums/brake lines/child restraints/etc etc etc and when they became compulsery, I may be able to use personal small scale importation laws but it is just research research research I will keep in touch

After a wet and slippery blast a few days ago I was very very impressed with the nivas traction, I was absolutely blown away by how it got traction on slippery wet hard packed clay hills, a LSD should be a must for every niva. But on the down side the understeer that this type of LSD causes caught me out twice, once ending in tears and once ending in a few loud swear words in front of a tree!!! The tears incident was simpley a 20kph R/H corner which had a off camber to the left, understeer, understeer, R/H down, R/H down GRIP PLUS!!! and the niva spears in the direction of the front wheels and ends up with the two R/H wheels in the ditch on the R/H side of the track!!! out with the winch. The second event was similar but it involved uphill sand, a corner and a tree on that corner! When the niva is getting grip from nowhere I love this LSD, but after incidents like those above each bush blast I am seriously contimplateing taking it out, I am dreading the snow/ice season. thinking thinking thinking thinking

Clutch type verses torson type. I think the torson type is the way to go

Thanks a lot for the feedback Bobby. I've got family who find themselves in Sydney, and to be honest, I was hoping for a positive report from you about the LSD.
Some of my family members often travel between South Africa and Sydney - and I was thinking about asking one of them to take a diff housing to Australia some time in future, for a clutch type LSD installation - should your report be positive.
I must admit I am a bit worried about extra stress on the steering box as well. You don't perhasps think understeer could put too much stress on the steering box ?
Regards
Danie

It truely is a great thing Danie, it truely is but in a perfect world I would go for the torsion type. The under steer wont affect the steering box and it only occurs on a slippery surface (where you dont want it)

I will try some Bi-tron additive next week to see if I can get rid of the clutch "grabbing" noise while turning at walking pace.

A bit of denial, but cooperative mostly. I cant do much about the understeer but if I can cut down the clutch "chatter/grabbing/shudder" I will be happy. LSD friendly additive or differnt oil are my first options

Hi Bob Typical supplier . You in fact should not need to try any thing , they should simply rectify the problem. As is often the case they have the money and just lead you on hoping you will go away. Keep us posted. Regards Ronnie

This type of LSD would be better suited for track work.

I put in some redline diff additive, if that dosent fix the noise the its out with the axles one at a time to see if there is anything amiss there then the diff centre

Hi Bob never a dull moment. I don`t think I would put much faith in any additive. Suppose it is worth a try Regards Ronnie
