What you say does make a lot of sense Spikes. Hopefully most if not all of the excess grease has now made their escape Let us know about the bottom cover on the hand brake. If you go according to the illustrations both systems are quite different with one that has a cover inside the vehicle and the other on the outside. Thanks for your input Marius

Marius are you going to get a front cv propshaft aswell at a later stage?

Hi Charles I don't think so unless I run into a lot of money The front prop shaft runs fairly straight and if you grease it properly at regular intervals it should be just as good as the CV prop shaft. Hey but who knows maybe I'll change my mind! According to Ladaworld the rear CV prop shaft should give you a 40% overall improvement on vibration and noise. I think that is fair depending on the level of your initial vibration, but one huge improvement for me is most definitely deceleration noise (down to zero) and the car feels much smoother. On the other hand the front CV prop shaft should give you an overall 5% improvement according to the same source - so unless you swim in money it might not be worth it? Marius

Hi Marius
I also have that deceleration noise. Will see if I can eliminate it with the standard propshaft.
The cv on your propshaft is it the same as the one on the intermediate shaft?

Hi Charles
The only way I was able to keep the deceleration noise in check was with regular greasing of the UJoints in the rear prop shaft - say every 5-10 000kms. That really made a difference but the noise always kept coming back. I would think it to be very common on most Nivas as the rear UJoints has to work very hard.
The CV's are exactly the same - made for high speed rotation.

Found the (obvious ) problem to the escaping grease on the CV shaft. The clamps on the boots does not seal properly. You can actually move them by hand! The interim solution is a sturdy tie down and hopefully it will keep the grease in. The cap on the CV on the rear diff's side does not fit properly into the CV. No grease escaped from there but I did seal the cap with some red gasket maker. I finally managed to get the illusive blue wheel bearing grease (very hard to find in these parts) and that has now replaced the original grease in the CV shaft. Marius

Charles, this grease is very sticky and high heat and water resistant. It also handles pressure very well. I use it in wheel bearings and cv joints

I just replaced the tailgate gas struts after more than 10 years of good service and a little over a year's so-so service. The new struts are originals from a recent small batch of spares that was brought into the country by my elderly mother on her visit to the UK! I also took the opportunity to straighten the rear parcel shelf. Nice and straight again thanks to a tip from Hercules some time ago! I had to use self tapping screws instead of pop rivets but it turned out fine. Marius @ MARIUS – can you please do me a favour and check the part number printed on your new gas struts. I haven’t had much time to pester you guys recently but as things are getting back to normal this is about to change! ;D ;D NIKKI

Hi Nikki
Welcome back stranger:) I was on the point of replacing the struts on Bongol as well, when Fanus posted a hint about the sagging struts. Just lift the tailgate a couple of times. They then hold in the open position. Worked for me. Spikes

I saw that post, Spikes, but Nikita's struts were beyond saving! ;D In any event, I bought some new ones recently but I think they are wrong but I'll get back on this if I have to when Marius confirms the part number. NIKKI

Hi Nikki (welcome back!)
This is the original parts number >> 21213-6308015. The new replacement part number is >> 212136308010 if you can get it. Both look exactly the same.
There is another trick that can help you to prolong the life of the struts. You can bend the shafts slightly (and I mean slightly) near the bottom.
