Hi Jaco The swamp area is actually in Abotsdale just outside Malmesbury but only in the rainy season. I do miss the West Coast. Can't find my pics of the Cederberg though Marius

Hi Stephen Nope, a forest station 16 km out of Grabouw on the way to Houwhoek, Caledon and Hermanus. As far as I know the plantations has mostly been clear felled and a community farm has most of the lower slopes of the mountains Regards Spikes

The only problem I have with taking photo's is it means that you have to stop...... and get out...... and then get back in again...... I prefer Voet in die hoek (Pedal to the metal) and just keep going.
Nice pics though

Good morning Spikes. Thanks for the Info. We've been to the Grabouw Forestry about a year back for a Quad Bike outing and a Lunch at the Country Club. Spikes are you still in the Forestry Line of things. I love the outdoors, but man has to provide for his Family. I've taken a pic yesterday. Attachments:

Stephen, I did a lot of hiking in the mountains between Hermanus and Villiersdorp. Went past Libanon quite often. When I was there last (+/- 7 years ago) they were very busy shutting down forestry in the area. Especially (at that time) in the Nuweberg area. It all was done for Eco-Tourism. Back then many of the labourers (and their families) did not know how they would be making a living once all the forestry is gone. How is the Libanon community doing now?

Hi Jaco Sorry for the late reply. Been to Worcester this morning.
MTO Forestry developed various Eco Tourism Projects in the WCP: 4 X 4, Abseiling, Angling, Mountain Biking, Hiking/jogging/birding etc and in some areas even Overnight chalets.
I'm think that some of the Staff was pensioned (Older People about normal Pension Age) and other redeployed like they did in Wemershoek. I know people there. I can't realy say, this is only a wild gues about the Staff.
When we were in Grabouw, there were a few Wardens and the Eco Group who accompanied us on the Quads.
Many of the Pines were cleared and the Fynbos is starting to come back. We were shown flowers which were thought to be exstinct. The plant started after a fire. It was a blueish coloured shrub.
I don't know the site that well, but we were in the area of the old Wagon Wheel tracks. The wagons was apperently used to haul goods inland before Sir Lowry's Pass was built. We told about oxen being killed and wagons destroyed in the process. I've also heard that those two wheels thingy's used by Security in Malls is now used as transport in the Grabouw Forests for Tourism. I hope to go back, but on an MTB this time.
Regards Stephen

Stephen, t'nx for the feedback and I'm glad to hear that the labourers were not just "thrown to the wind".
The Cape Floral Kingdom is the smallest in the world, but the richest. I have been in spots where you would find one "species" or "kind" of plant and in a 50m radius it would be only place in the world that you would find it. And there is many plants like that.
On Summerset-Sneeukop I saw a lil black frog. It is as big as your thumbnail. It also the only place in the world you would find it. Fascinating stuff, I'd say. ;D I had gangster kids (from the Cape Flats) argue about which-is-which as I use to hike with some books and have them identify what plants we were looking at. It was not part of the program with them, but I found it a fantastic tool. It also brought some big laughs and at times some "warm klappe" (warm slaps). "Nai my bru, daai is mossie n pink bloemmetjie...djy check daai ding'ie staight 'ie..." ;D ;D ;D Well, at least it took our minds off the long hikes.

I just replaced the tailgate gas struts after more than 10 years of good service and a little over a year's so-so service. The new struts are originals from a recent small batch of spares that was brought into the country by my elderly mother on her visit to the UK! I also took the opportunity to straighten the rear parcel shelf. Nice and straight again thanks to a tip from Hercules some time ago! I had to use self tapping screws instead of pop rivets but it turned out fine. Marius Attachments:

Today I have been busy sorting the fuel separator and it took a somewhat longer than I expected. The separator is overall a bit longer than the original plastic one and I had to remove the tail light to get the separator into place. I had to drill the mounting holes a bit larger. I also had to keep the T in order to fit the fuel pipes. The good news is that the new separator (Euro3 standard) is an all metal design and according to some horrible Russian English (much worse than Chinese English!) it has some rust free protection. The separator is on page 102 on the parts manual. I only got the box and not the rest of the fittings, but that is "no problem". Marius Attachments:

Hi Marius Bongol's rear struts are also giving up the ghost. Wacked me a painful shot on the shoulder last week! Please roughly measure the volume of the old separator if you don't mind? I will be assembling one as per Jan (belgium) drawings but want to get volume at least close to OE volume. Regards Spikes PS did you mange to save the two ferrules on the inlet side of the old box. Apparently they aid in droplets forming S

Hi Spikes
Unfortunately I discarded the old one a couple of years ago. The complete separator (new) is larger than the plastic one but the actual volume of the tank should be exactly the same. A rough guess would be around 14x24 - hope it helps!?
I am not sure what you mean by ferrules but there was no extra editions to my original. I just disconnected the pipes and added a T when I removed the separator.
At some stage I considered a large in line fuel filter but the one that was recommended (Sentra?) did not look up to the job at all. Marius

Thanks Marius 14x24x3-4 cm width? Sounds about right to me If and when the unit starts leaking again I'll take pictures of the ferrules. They do not appear in the spares manual

Hi Spikes
I forgot about the depth ;D ;D ;D
The depth would rather be 4 than 3cm. Picks of those ferrules would be very interesting thanks.

Hi Marius
I've also been threatening to replace my struts for some time but never seem to get around to it. As a matter of interest what did they cost in the UK?

Hi Nikki
The struts were about R200 with all the taxes. They are dead easy to replace and obviously you don't need to buy additional adapters.

Next jobbie would be to replace the idle arm bushes. I have been told if you don't fit/lube them correctly they will not last so I am considering a professional for the job. The job looks fairly simple though? Marius Attachments:

Marius it is a easy job to replace them. Just make sure the shaft is clean and smooth. I fitted a grease nipple in my housing so lubing isnt a problem. Also give the a good rubbing with grease before fitting.
