Seriously bad sounds and vibes. When i take my foot of the petrol it sounds like it is chewing some thing and it vibrates like mad. When u put your foot down it almost stops completly. Took the gearbox out to check it and it looks good. So its tc or front diff?? Sounds like more than a small thing. Any ideas? Thanks Ruan

Hi Roons
A stupid question, have you checked the intermediate shaft to see that the doughnut and the cv are OK, What does the noise sound like ?

sounds like the pinion bearing of the (in most cases the rear) diff. Also check the rear joint of the rear propeller shaft

A broken cage in a UJ can also cause noise on overrun

Eish Ruan.
That is probably the front diff. I did that not too long ago with Rusti...... It turns out to be carrier bearings that collapsed...

O ja. That problem is fixed. The gearbox did not have a thrust whasher in. Fitted it and problems gone!

Cant seem to get my tc aligned properly. Its fine at high speed but shakes at low speed around 20 to 60km/h. Cant seem to get that sorted. I am now thinking its a normal niva vibe. Runs nicely apart from that.

It tends to have a vibe at low speed. Where is the tc studs in the mountings?

Very interesting - my Lada did not have any vibrations at low speed.
I think more comments could be very helpful.

Charles. My tc is very far back in its mountings. My speedo is not working but i want to change my first comment of 20-60kmph to 5 to 40km/h after driving all day. I am only now starting to realy love my car. For some reson it drives better every day. Sounds wierd i know.

Hey All.
My Niva has got a very strange vibrations on its drive train at the moment. When i go around a bend it will start to vibrate. This will only stop as soon as i stop dead, at a stop street. Sometimes when i pull away i also have that vibrations. Is this maybe worn engine mountings or what will it be?

Sounds to me like a worn or torn mounting.

Okay thanks Charles. I had that suspicion. Just want to make sure, there is 2 mountings on the engine, 1 mounting on gearbox and 2 mountings on transfer?

Can somebody maybe help me with the correct size of a engine mounting? Had a look at mine last night, there are both fine, but there is still a vibration.

Hi all
Check the rubber end cap on the output shaft for any play - it should fit snugly over the shaft. It does make a significant difference as far as vibration is concerned.
