I will be importing the rear shaft sometime early in the next year. If it makes the difference that I suspect I will be going for the front one too - depending on how much it is going to cost naturally.

Good Evening Chairman (Chairperson).....and welcome back :-) Have a great holiday and a super New Year. Regards and best wishes to all at LOCSA. Keith and CERATOTH
I lathed up some adapters to mate a local CV shaft up to replace the front drive shaft, turned out to be too heavy and too expensive plus the front one is virtually straight its the back one that needs to be flicked, im with marius, import one
Are you saying that you solved the problem of the vibration of the Niva drive-train with the transfer case frame (yellow contraption in your earlier post in this thread) or by doing something else?
I will most definitely pay to find out what you did, if my Niva still vibrate after balancing and replacing all possible parts!
I just do not like the idea of a CV in the belly-area of a real 4 x 4.

Hi Guys ,I personaly dont like that Yellow T/C Frame at all as it hangs to low for my liking and imagine what would happen in deep mud or if a rock caught on the stupid thing .I think that whole design is a disaster and no way would i ever put that contraption on my niva Sorry for my negativity but its pretty much what i think of it ay .Cheers Trev .
I am with you on this one. I also would not waste my money on such a contraption. One thing I have noticed with all the various mods to eliminate vibration is NONE ever say the vibration is COMPLETELY GONE.
Ronnie
PS I did make a bracket to fit between the TC with a rubber mounting on the body. It did not stop the vibration but it caused more noise to be transmitted via the body.
My Niva is still vibe free after my little mod to it no need for all this other stuff people put on them to stop vibes just spend a little more time susing the problem and getting your transfer boxs perfectly square and make sure they are not a bit low or to high and Bobs your uncle and problem solved .Cheers Trev .

Fanus No....my niva haven't transfer case frame. What you mean....the Niva still vibrate after balancing and replacing all possible parts! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Did you try this solution??? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
The next few days I have to change the clutch disc and solve a problem with a low noise that I hear sometimes .... I have not understand exactly where the problem is, in the gearbox (any bearings) or the CV. Then I will take some pics ....
OK ....... but if it is so simple and easy would not be so much discussion in all forums on vibrations and would not have done so many modifications to solve the problem!
Dimitri don't worry if it works for you then its great. It is actually a very neat job! One thing that interest me is the intermediate shaft mod. Is that also something you did?

Marius, I found the photo on the web ..... I do not have that frame on my niva. It Is just a joke! ;D ;D

Hi Dimitris
I fully agree ...
Where did you find the pic of the frame, and do you know whether more pics are available ?
It would also be interesting to see another pic which shows the opposite side of the Gearbox / Transfer Box.
Danie, In my free time, looking at various Niva forums, so I have found and copied several interesting pics .... but I do not remember where I found this pic.Sorry
He, he, must say if I must fit a frame like the last picture you showed I will simply put a Toyota ladder chassis under the Niva and voila, all vibration problems solved for ever. (see how the Toyota transfer case is attached to the gearbox - simple, and it works - from website hilux4x4.co.za).
I must admit I will not really mind a small vibration on my Niva, but a vibration that make me wonder when the Niva is going to fail will make me mad, so I am very interested in what to do that will prevent vibrations to develop.
I have spend a small fortune on my Niva to overhaul the drive-train components (and must admit that the best Niva repair con-artist in South Africa took advantage of me - and it is no relative of Andries Pretorius of 'Groot Trek' fame. I still think his wife was the fly in the ointment, but that is just my view). Example; I last week again looked at the invoice for balancing the prop-shafts and replacing the universals of my Niva and read words like "Toyota" on the invoice and amounts of R6000.00 (and more). That for prop shafts in excellent condition that I bought new with the Niva and just wanted serviced. Everything (literally) that could be replaced was therefore replaced except the parts inside the gearbox, transfer case and diffs (although I paid for a shaft of a few thousand rand for the gearbox, although Jan told me that he can not tell how the gearbox look inside - the famous Marius-versus-the pack nut was apparently starting to get loose). Jan did mention that he did install the fold-over washer - I hope). But, ag no ja, I will of course never buy a part from this outfit again, and therefore good money paid to get rid of bad rubbish in my simple life, although I still think I now know how a raped woman must feel after that ordeal.
Enjoy Greece my friend, Africa is not for the faint hearted!! Even a single mosquito here can kill you. Easily. Especially if you make the mistake to go to a government hospital (Being raped by vehicle repairers may sound bad, but not even closely as bad as being raped by the president of the country. You thing I joke? not really - when asked in court if he was not afraid of getting aids from the victim he just said "No, no, not at all, I did shower afterward". At least you now know why some of us rather order parts from Russia, we do not like to be raped and not being able to do anything about it in court).
Please let us know how you solved the vibration prolems on your Niva!
Regards,
Fanus

Hi Dimitris ,Thank you for your Comment mate but i know of two nivas over here that are running vibe free and i think i did read on your forum over there that some one just bolted there transfer case in and it was vibe free .Im not sure but i think it may have been Charles But i may have the wrong member as its been a while ago now since i seen it but its still on here some where .There are pics and info about the way i solved my vibes on the Aussie Forum under Show us your Lada section .Cheers Trev .
Fanus I would double check to see if the washer is actually fitted. You would be able to spot the folded washer (just) at the rear of the rubber coupling. Looks like you have been trough a bit of an ordeal!?

One thing I should mention, he overhauled my gearbox during the "rebuild" and it DID NOT have the lock washer fitted. I must admit the spring washer and nut was so tight I doubt if it would have ever come loose.

Hi Trev
I can't find anything on your forum about how you solved your vibrations problems and I'd like to read this so if you could copy the link I would appreciate it. I did search under the 'Show us your Lada Section' and thought it would be under your 'Bumble Bee Project' but didn't find anything. However, I did enjoy reading about your Niva - you did a great job and I just love the colour!!

Dear Trevor, I've read all the posts here and many more in other forums, and I have seen your videos. You noticed the problem, you thought about it, you did a mod and solved it. Was all those easy and simple? I dont think so!!! Ronnie wrote...." if everything is set up properly the Niva should be virtually vibration free"!!!! Yes but how is it possible? The only easy solution is to move the tc a little bit, but as you know most times that is not enough..... I dont like that frame under the tc too. Congrats for your conversion and thanks for showing it to all of us.
In my opinion those videos from Ahma - Sweden, show the main cause of vibrations. Perhaps you know them.
What I've done…… When I bought this niva 1600 I had the experience from the previous two.
1. I tried to move the tc and thus reduce vibrations, but it was not enough. . I destroyed two rubber housings (I made bigger holes to move the tc more, it was a stupid idea ;D ;D)
2. I replaced the flange because it was wrong – bent. (Here we have the opinion that 5-10%?? of nivas have the problem from the factory).
3. I placed a cv... (NIVA 1600 had not),and I fit a grease nipple on the side, so I can put grease easy when it needs to be greased.
4. No frame etc….just a very cheap mod.I modified the support. I cut the support in three pieces , I adjusted the gearbox and the tc to the correct position and then I stuck the support again.
That’s all!!!! ;D
During the driving the tc vibrates just for some seconds only in the first and second gear when I press the accelerator pedal to the floor and the car accelerates very quickly. I finished the modifications ten years ago and I had not had any problems so far at the seals, on bearings, or gears and I had no oil leak..... etc After the susp. lift a vibration generated after the 70-80km\h, so needed to adjust front and rear axles.
Take a look at video.
The next few days I will post some pics.
Regards, Dimitris

Well Hello Nikki,Firstly i must say sorry as i think i mentioned ,That how i fixed my Nivas vibrations was in my Bumble Bee thread on the Ausie forum but some how i got my wires crossed and its actually on this section of your Forum, starting at page 5 through to page 11 so there you go young Lady .But as i mentioned earlier this mod may not or will not solve everyones vibe isues as these vibes can and are all caused by a number of diffrent things .But i must say this little mod i did certainly fixed my vibrations and all so make sure you have a spacer ring fitted between the T/C input flange and the gear box out put flange so as your T/C mounting bolts are centralised in the slots on T/C Box .By the way i allso like your niva very much and Nikkita is one very lucky Lada to have a caring owner as yourself so take care and best of luck in solving your vibe problem.Cheers Trev
Hello Demitris,Thank you for your comment mate .It seems to me that you have had a big struggle to try and solve your vibrations in your Niva but like every one else as to them it is a bad thing for Nivas to have this problem and as there are many of them still out there and many Frustrated owners still till this day are trying to solve these issues .I and many other owners really enjoy reading your posts and veiwing your pics on this forum so keep up the good work mate. And good luck .Cheers Trev .
