Glad you're getting in some Lada time Vince! I was not aware that hammerite could be used in the way you've described- I'm definitely going to try it.

Hi Darryn I cannot take the credit for this - It is the idea of the Dalai Lada himself. I do however fully intend to implement is as Ruski ir VERY rusty and I would prefer to have a vehicle that does NOT fall apart in the middle of nowhere. Regards Vincent

That is a great pic. If you want more of that car let me know. I have a couple of when they applied the stickers. I'm very curious about the vesconite. Please explain some more. Charles Hi Charles Vesconite is an engineering plastic used in industry where bronze is typically used. Advantages of Vesconite over most other plastics and bearing materials is it is VERY durable without lubrication. it does not swell when immersed in water like nylon does. It has very little slip stick ... the list is endless. The current bushes also look to be made from vesconite or a similar product. It is however NOT good as a suspension bush as it does not give. Hi Darryn
I painted the main chassis sections with Black Hammerite and then decided to paint the rest with chassis black. It was a big mistake. I will remove by whatever method is best and redo with Hammerite. I was worried about the Hamerite chipping, that is why I changed. I would rather touch up if necessary than come out from underneath covered in chassis black.

Hi Charles
the bushes are part number 2101-3003094 in the parts catalogue. The are part of 21216-3414080. I will post the drawing that you can take to any engineering shop and have turned up in Vesconite for a few bucks.
I will take pics of the bush replacement to assist other members with getting the job done.

Glad you finally got time to get it sorted. When you get the new balljoint please measure the shaft. At the top and bottom of the taper. Regards Charles Hi Charles Top of taper 9.8mm Bottom of taper 17.4mm length of taper 22mm It seems fiat may have a similar ball joint. Regards Vincent

Hi Vincent
Thank you for all the info.
I was looking at the fiat 124 balljoint that is why I wanted the sizes. Also I'm looking for a similar size balljoint to mod to fit the niva. Something that is cheaply avalible.

I managed to squeeze in a quick propshaft greasing session. All done in under 1 hour and includes undoing the bolts.
I still have a vibration and I am starting to suspect the front diff.... too much rotation on the input shaft.
Tomorrow is idler arm bushes, lower ball joint and CV overhauls. Happy days..

I can't understand how you can get such a prices??? Ball joint for imported 4x4 to cost R135. I'll never believe that. This is equal to ~10 pounds. I'm going from time to time to England and I know very well that for 10 pounds you can't buy anything today.

I have found Lada Parts UK prices to be VERY competitive - esp since their currency is so much stronger than ours.
On the other hand Lada World in Denmark has some real interesting mods but I find them a bit on the expensive side.

Hi Ventz
One thing which makes it even better is it is a long time since the Rand was over 13 to the Pound. It is only now that it has crept up over 11 as it has hovered around10 for a very long time. I know cos my British pension has dropped drastically over the last 2 years. I think you will find a lot of good prices there if you can wait for delivery.

Hi Charles
The cost of shipping was 8 pounds. I expect this was a mimimum charge and you MAY have been able to ship some other light things as well. Total cost should be R368.00. I will let you know when I receive it.

Well, it's a mystery for me. UK is so expensive country, more than France, Italy, Germany. And the motor business is one of the most expensive ones. For 10 pounds is possible to by a take away pizza but not everywhere, from pizzeria on the street or kiosk. A coke can from vending machine cost 2.5 pounds. How is possible a strong SUV ball joint which is not a simple spare part and needs sophisticated machinery and technology and quality steel and teflon to cost as one pizza?
For 40 min parking on Heathrow airport we paid 7.5 pounds. If somebody does not believe - to watch Mr. Bean.
I can't understand the current price policy for spares, no any logic.

Hi Ventz I cannot understand it either. I will say this - If I want the spare now, I will purchase the component locally - preferrably from you as your prices are better than chris swales - I just could not wait till you were back from holiday I also LOVE Mr. Bean
