Thanks all for the wishes.
At Hera - Yes. It started off being Rusti short for Rustovich (Loads of surface rust) but I am thinking to change it to Ruski (Russian).

Argh..... The oil out of the gearbox is BLACK !!!! I am in Lubricants and this smacks of inattention. Thankfully Ruski will now have Lovely lubes poured into it. :-)

Hi Charles. Ruski runs without most of the horror stories I have seen on the forum. I think that the oil had not been drained for some time before I purchased it.

Well, the plans of mice and men are never the concern of the Gods !!!
Last week was supposed to run like this:-
Wednesday - Get temporary permit for Ruski to allow me to do Road worthy and Police Clearance. - Successfully Done - Thank You traffic Dept Ladies at Scottburgh. Wednesday Afternoon recived a call from a client to say that they have 2 machines they need work done on .... BUGGER !!! Thursday - (Should have been at roadworthy) At Barloword working. THEN got a call from another Customer - Help !!! - To cut a long story short I ended up doing 400 km's in Ruski - On temporary plates - With a hole in the exhaust. Friday - (Should have been doing Police Clearance) - Barloworld and only got home after 10pm - On a Friday night :-( And the release bearing on the Peugeot decides that it is giving notice.... Saturday (Should have been working on Ruski - But it was raining) Ronnie popped over and we had coffee and chatted. The temporary 3 day permit has now expired... Monday Ronnie came over to help sort out the hooter. I replaced the Engine oil and filter - The oil was blacker than the 206 Diesel - I also suspect a LARGE amount of fuel dilution has happened of the past while.

Monday also patched the hole in the exhaust with sealer, some steel sheet and a few hose clamps - Sounds really quiet ;D Popped over to Ronnie and fiddled with the carb. I will have to take it apart to clean it. Cops are about so I decide not to take the car for Road worthy...
Tuesday - Buy a new hooter - Yay it works (Thanks Ronnie) Now for the roadworthy. Brake Test - Pass with flying colors. I need to retest on the following items:- Left front lower ball joint 2 leaking CV boots (Was planning to replace them anyway) Idler arm bushes have some play Left wing mirror needs some attention paid to the missing body work - Was planning to do this anyway And the wiring needs to be taped up. - Ronnie has volunteered his services - Grin - I am REALLY LUCKY - Thank You Ronnie (Again) While we are about it, I think I will move the fuel pump to a better location and sort the supply wires out.

My only real gripe now is that the fuel tank is the size of a thimble and being a few large hills and 20 km's away from a fuel station means that when the needle stops moving - So do you ;-)

The next large job will be to tackle the rusting under carriage - picture to be posted - with phosphoric acid to kill the rust before I stone guard the under side.
THE RUST MUST DIE !!!! (Not Rusti/Ruski)

Glad you finally got time to get it sorted. When you get the new balljoint please measure the shaft. At the top and bottom of the taper.

With stone guard be very carefull as its waterbased, if you do not put down a good undercoat it rusts like crazy. Rather get chassis black. It always stays a bit sticky so it protects a lot better.

Hi Charles
I rue the day I used chassis black on mine. You are correct it stays tacky, and every time i do something underneath there is as much on me as there is on the car, and it was painted months ago. This is a future project to remove it all and repaint it with hammerite.

Yes that is just as good Ronnie. When you remove it use a wirebrush fitted to the grinder, but use the smallest one you can find. My chassis black is almost completely dry. Doesn't stick to me.

Hi Vincent We used replaced a Diff on the Landy SIII and used a brush to paint it with some NS4 Paint. I could be wrong with the Paint No. I'm planning to use the same stuff on the Lad: www.duram.co.za/File_Uploads/docs/NS4AntiRustCoatingDS160207.pdfThanks Mike for correcting the Name. Took her early today on my way to work for an Engine Clean-up. Will attempt a Service today after work - Oil, plugs, timing etc. Would like to do a few trips during the Easter Week-end. Will not be camping this year. Car's been standing for a while now... Replaced the CV-Joint on Saturday and the Bolt connecting the Bracket on Monday. I'm getting there... Regards Stephen

Thanks for the advice. As I work with Lubricants and greases all day long I prefer not to have the propect of chassis black getting me dirty. I will first deactivate the rust and then hemmerite it. Once the hammerite is dry, I will stone guard it as my daily work takes me on to sand roads and beaches - Bliss in a Niva.

Today I have some work to do on the Lada. The weather co operated and I was able to mow the lawn yesterday - The Boss says I can play for a while ;-)
The carb (solex) will be taken apart to see if I can find the reason for the uneven idling. Once that is back, the front CV's will come out to have their boots replaced. The propshafts need to be greased - I have to get the bolts off (Eish) The lower ball joint needs to be replaced after taking the measurements that Charles needs. I have new bushes for the Idler arm - I will measure these too as they can be made from Vesconite at a fraction of the cost that they were charged at and post the sizes for other members.
I have a template that I would like Ruski to end up looking similar too - As seperate post
Regards Vincent

That is a great pic. If you want more of that car let me know. I have a couple of when they applied the stickers.
I'm very curious about the vesconite. Please explain some more.
