Guys and gals I want to know if anyone has ever used Q8 silicone spray (SA only) and if it contains any petroleum products listed such as Hexane, Heptane, Toluene, Xylene, Ethelene, Xylol, Toluol, Naptha, benzene or any other flamable substance - with the exception of ISO-Butane, or propane as a propellant.
Spanjaard has a petroleum free silicone spray but it seems hard to find over here...
Thanks Marius

Hi Marius
From the product description it (Q8) does not seem to have any cleaning properties, it is a protective product with a bit of lubrication on the side. The stuff that you listed all are normally found in solvents like degreasing fluid and engine cleaners and then of course in the normal oil based products.

Oh yes Carb cleaner is heavy on Acetone, methanol, xylene and ethyl-bezine. Not stuff you want near any open flames

Thanks for the response Spikes I am looking for a silicone spray that contains no petroleum product and I know that Spanjaard is one of them. However there are many other silicone sprays and many are petroleum based or at least have some petroleum in it. It is not clear whether Q8 qualifies, but yes I will try and find out tomorrow. Marius

Q8 Q20 Someone was asking about ths during the week - fantastic stuff: Q8 is a unique spray which repels moisture and waterproofs all surfaces. Ideal for water-proofing tents, lubrication of switch-gears.Q8 prevents arcing in electrical systems, and lubricates electrical systems.Q8 may be used as anti-spatter during welding.Q8 is a non-staining lubricant for car body clips, all hinges, rubber bushes and rubber fittings (car door linings) and most plastic fittings (Not for use on Computer Keyboards).Q8 may be used as a dashboard spray-spray onto a cloth and wipe onto the dashboard.Q8 inhibits corrosion and prevents flash over in a polluted atmosphere. Thanks for the valued input Lindy.
Quite right these "Q" products are Quite Fantastic AND it's local! The only problem I have with Q8 is that I can't find any of their ingredients on the internet. As I have mentioned in a previous post their are quite a number of silicone sprays on the market, but the only one I can find that definitely has no petroleum products listed is from Spanjaard. Fortunately I was able to source the product.
Whilst on the subject of "hard to source" - perhaps you (or anyone else) know where I can get dielectric grease and also white lithium based grease? I know Permatex has both but they are rather expensive.
All of the above products are safe to use on plastic and rubber parts.
Now for some coffee... Marius

Yes looks like Permatex is the place to buy those items - its risky buying on line. I believe the Q20 outstrips Q8 and its silicone free - I may be able to obtain the ingredients off my Q8 at home.

Thanks Lindy According to Permatex both Autozone and Midas are supposed to at least have it on their system but it is not the case though - so online would probably be the only option Marius

Hi Spikes
Yes we have already had 200GBP deposited into our account. I then got a letter from our gas and electricity provider to complete a form and will now get a further 130GBP. If the temp averages 0 deg for 7 consecutive days we will then get 25GBP for each 7 day period. The nice thing is we pay nothing for this. We paid voluntary NHI contributions when we lived in SA. It was a bargain.

Hi Charles
If I was younger I would rebuilt a MK2 Jaguar again. The problem now is the weight of all the drive train and being able to handle it alone. I already struggle to drag the MG motor around the garage. The MK2 is my favorite car, capable of 200KPH. Not bad for a 50+ year old car.

Then it must be a 3.8 4spd manual with overdrive. Cream in colour with dark red leather.

Hi Conrad For me the Jag Mk2 was the most exciting car to drive. I had one in SA for many years and used it as my every day car. 60km to work and 60 back home every day . I had a Mk1 3.4 in the UK when I was an apprentice and when you had the road there was nothing to beat flicking into overdrive at 100MPH and still being able to accelerate for another 20 MPH. There was no speed limits in those days apart from in town. Ronnie

Hi all,
I didn't want to start a new thread for this as I am sure someone has already asked.
If I wanted to get bigger side mirrors.. are there any that I can get that would fit where the existing ones are.. IE not have to make new holes/not leave the old holes out in the open?
Thanks,
Damian

In short, no. I think the old Hilux/cruiser mirrors will cover the old holes.

Hi Damian
I used old Hilux mirrors and you need to drill one hole but they do cover the existing ones. Watch if you buy aftermarket ones as the quality of the view in the mirror can be poor. Genuine ones may cost more than the Niva ;D ;D ;D.
