They are AT's so it is a compromise, but from my own experience they can pretty much handle anything and are very durable and particularly good in wet conditions. Marius Attachments:

I am very happy with the Nankangs. My Niva is used mainly on gravel. Longest tar stretch is the 27 km to Sabie. The Forestry roads are all based on slate. So far no cuts or punctures (9000km)

Im jealous. Scrubs the sides with a brush and sunlight liquid to remove the blue and make the letters nice and white.

OK, I thought I would give you guys a bit of an update or review on there tires compared to the bf's I had on previously. Unfortunately it isn't as conclusive as I had hoped though.
First the negatives: - There is nankangs don't have a rim protector. - The sidewall is considerably thinner. - The tread pattern is not as aggressive which will make them less effective in mud.
Now for the positives - they are half the price of the bf's - no more rubbing at full lock - no more clanging noises as the back tyres hit the springs at full articulation - steering is much lighter - spare wheel fits under the bonnet - car holds speed better on the freeway, so you don't have to change gears as frequently
The inconclusive results were: - my fuel consumption improved from 8.5 km/l to 10.5 km/l. I was also fiddling with my carb so its likely to be a combo of both. - my handling improved, but that could be because I had 2 different sets of tyres on. With the bf's at the back I can tell you it felt like an elephant on roller-skates on the freeway. - I battled to turn left or right when the car was going straight. I actually had to yank the steering wheel slightly to start turning. I thought that the steering box was on its way because of the wider tyres, but the wheel alignment was way out. Don't know what fixed it, but the car feels like new again.
All in all, I have to say I'm very pleased with my new tyres. Even if the tyres don't perform quite as well off road, or are slightly more prone to puncture, they were money well spent

That is good news. In my opinion Bf's are the best tyres out there.

That is a very good assessment Conrad and I have no doubt that the BFG's are of much better quality. I checked the prices of a well known online supplier. These guys are normally somewhat cheaper than the normal retail outlets. A set of 5 BFG's would have set you back R13 500 whilst you paid R4600 for your set of 5 Nankangs. That would give you three full sets of Nankangs for the price of one set of 16" BFG's!
For those who are interested in the green aspect - the Nankangs contains no oil in the rubber compound which makes them more environmentally friendly.

I agree that the bf's are very good tyres, but all those benefits are far out weighed byhaving the right size tyres.I wouldn't have believed they would make such a big difference if I hadn't tried them myself.

Hi Charles
I really liked the BFG mud terrain tyres, however, they were the worst tyre I ever used on wet roads. I never knew if I would manage to stop or just slide to the end of the world. They were simply dangerous. My favorite all rounder was the Conti Trac. I was able on the Landy to run close to 100000 kms on a set.

Ronnie I agree about the muds and wet weather, but BFG AT is a truly fantastic tyre. Works in any terrain and give fantastic mileage.

Hi all
There seems to be no real immediate need to import a new batch of Nankangs. Members should however take into consideration that shipping takes three months for delivery to South Africa. A single batch/crate is normally 20-30 tyres. Current stock level is 13 Nankangs.

Hi, I have just completed a redo on 2 sets of 16" rims. Shot-blasted and Powder coated - 1 set matt-black, 1 set gloss dove-grey. Both look great. Would love to get a set of Nankangs for the blacks as I have the original Ruskies on the Greys.
