Hi Ventz
I paid in 1996 R70000 for Ari`s Niva complete with tow bar, bullbar, and aircon. As far as I am concerned if the general public can import parts for low prices then there is no excuse for a dealer to charge exorbitant prices. I fully agree with Marius on this matter. The power is in our own hands. I also think we should support the Agent who supports us and charges reasonable prices.

Good idea rather to close this discussion ! To conclude from my side : Always try to get prices from the local suppliers first ! If you can't afford their prices - there is absolutely no reason for concern. Try this link - GRAF KORVET ( Valerij Nekrasov) from Russia is a very reputable and trustworthy supplier, and several local Lada owners have imported parts successfully from this source in the in the past: stores.ebay.com/bestrussiangoodsIf you do need any quotes or advice from Valerij, he can be e.mailed at: graf.korvet@gmail.com (Valerij usually replies within 3 working days) Payment can be made via Paypal - see more details on previous pages. Well Ronnie,
I've got at my place 2 running Nivas which I paid for R0.00. That doesn't mean they have not value. I'll restore them to their former glory and will put them back on the road. But the time is not enough....
But let's really finish this pointless dispute, nobody will convince the others that he is the right one. It is waist of time and efforts. It's not my first discussion on this matter. With little results...
If you can find a better deal, don't hesitate - catch it. It is so logical. The ratio between factory price/retail price is usually 1/10. For all common goods. There is chain of middle men; that's normal. If you can get it something from one of these middle men, of course you will get it cheaper.
Just for fact of interest - do you know how much cost the milk? Recently I visited a farm here in Mooi River. The farmer has everything - cows, land, food, medicines, buildings, staff, electricity, machinery, special equipment,... They all work very hard. Later came a truck from Clover and pump out the milk from the tanks. On my question how much they pay to him, the answer was R1.20/l. And now please remember how much is the price at the supermarket. But very few people buy milk directly from the farms.
Same story with the tyres which Marius organized for us - directly from the importer. Because there is not a 16" tyre at the shop for less R1.5-1.6 and a lot of them are over R2.0 each.

In April of 2010 I made an inquiry with regard to certain spares that I might be interested in to have in stock as backup. At the time a volcano in Iceland put an abrupt halt to my efforts. The quote I got is in Euros - the retail price is on the far right under E. Before you download this make sure you don't have anything flammable or scorching hot nearby - it might cause serious injury. You have been warned! PS - Trunnion is a Ujoint. My apologies if I stir the apple cart again but I think it is important information.

Hi Guys
Before closing this discussion, and as it seems to have been my starter that stirred up quite a 'hornet’s nest’, I would like my final say! ;D
My consignment left Russia yesterday – within the promised 3 days - and I have my tracking number. ;D ;D ;D
I disagree that ‘It's not so easy to import……’ - with today’s technology “the world is your oyster” but you obviously need to be sure who you are dealing with!
Danie – there is no need for any invoices – anyone interested in comparing prices in Russia can get an idea by simply browsing the Lada Parts Russia site.
Marius – I agree that it was unfortunate that one specific dealer's name was mentioned especially if ‘the dealers are all guilty of such conduct’. As such, I believe it would be inappropriate if this specific dealer were to be removed from your list of recommended suppliers. In the past I have always found them to be both competitive and helpful. The starter, however, was totally unacceptable so I looked elsewhere.
Charles – I’ll probably be placing another order in the not too distant future. If you want a couple of things I'll gladly assist if possible.
Regarding the Paypal query earlier on, although it can be linked to your bank account in other countries, here in SA it can probably only be done through the new FNB system where you would need to have an account. From the security aspect Paypal does apparently offer 100% protection in the unlikely event of any unauthorized payment from your account. It is also used by more than 200 million people worldwide
That’s my final word on the subject - I think! ;D ;D

Hi Nikki Your starter surely deserves a place at a hall of fame, I guess . ;D Anyway, thanks for your contribution. In future I will just keep an eye on this thread,, and post details of the Russian supplier's details on each future page - just to make it more visible to new members. That's my final word. Danie

Hi Nikki I was actually about to contact Chris Swales with regard to prices when I was informed of your situation. I fully agree with you that we should not remove any of our local dealers from our list of suppliers - it is a free country and people should be able to choose who they want as supplier. The same goes with regard to the invoices - people are either ignorant or blind if they can't see the facts. In this regard I do apeal to our suppliers to reconsider and adjust their pricing structures to a more exceptable level. Sometimes people will feel aggrieved by some of the dealers prices - and like you - they are more than welcome to air their views. Any member has a right to speak freely. I am glad you did Regards Marius

Hi Marius
After Reading some of the horrors of paypal, I think I will use my credit card if the need arises. At least the bank is just down the road if I have a problem.

Sorry if I scared you away Ronnie ;D
I just think if you open a separate account to handle paypal transactions you should be covered from potential disaster.

Hi Ronnie I am quite happy to use my CC for internet transactions and so far have not had mishaps BUT I have only dealt with reputable sellers. Paypal and Ebay seems the only option with Grav.Korvet> I cannot find any links to normal CC payments on the site Regrads Spikes

Hi Ventz
If you have not got enough time to rebuild the 2 Nivas you got for R0.00 I will gladly buy them from you for 5 times what you paid for them. This I am sure is enough profit for you to part with them. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Ha, ha,
They need some work and spares. Now if I buy an indicator bulb, it will be more costly than the entire vehicle. Let's not get back for the starter story.

Friends in high places..., friends in high places.... Excuse me, I'm afraid I can't follow your sense of humour...
I've been once on one table with Thamo Mbeki and Trevor Manuel 6-7 years ago when they were on top of the pop, but they were not friends of mine. I can't remember anywhere else I've been in high places. Now you can have them both. For free.

Hi Charles,
There are few unique Ladas imported here like exhibition samples. And left here. Including 2 LWB Nivas - 5-door one and Kings cab one. And 3 LWB factory racing Nivas as well. I will prepare photos and will open a new thread. I wish to find them and put them back on the road. For the glory of the brand and fun, not for daily use. Any possible help and information will be highly appreciated.

Well, I don't have a friends up there. It's due to my wife, if it's possible sometimes to call the wife - friend. Sometimes she has a chance to meet such a people and I follow her like a trailer. But don't think I'm lucky guy, she is like Saddam Hussein at home and out. Poor my destiny... Once I witnessed she confused and scared the fearful Beki Cele at the time when he was still regional minister in KZN.
What about these Ladas - it is not secret, they are gifts from my customers - they don't want them more, repairs were not reasonable.. They both are not in good shape - one is rusty, the other one has some technical problems and LHS steering. But both are running.
Regards

It will be fantastic to have those Nivas back on the road. I would love to get my hands on a racing one.
I think Marius will be fighting everyone off with a stick for the king cab.
