Hi all Yesterday I recieved my bearings from Ventz so today we started putting everything back together again. We are done with the gearbox. next is the coupling donut that must be exchange and then everything must go back into the LADA. What I am most exited about is that it seems like the 4th gear is working now. will have to wait till it is back in the Lada. An interesting thing that I noticed today was that the gearlever must have been broken or something because it is fixed with pratley steel just under the rubber. I will post picks.

I am still in need of a spare wheel. I contacted Ventz and he can help me with an original spare rim for R450.00 Im thinking of ordering one next week.
I also have an rivers switch ( think thats the name) the ball inside is stuck. will also need to replace that. Any idea if its available locally or will I have to order from Ventz also.
Your input will be appreciated. Thanx Zet

update Had to work on rebuilding the lada because of whether predictions for the week. Gearbox is back in. TC is back in . propshaft not in. after the propshaft shop fixed them they painted it and now the ( for lack of better explination - dont laugh) doesnt want to move at the sleeved spline. so it seems to short because it is stuck at the spline. my thoughts are that it might be the pain but to be sure im taking them back tomorrow.

Hi everyone The latest on the Lada is as follows. The clutch master and slave cylinder seals need to be replaced. Tried everywhere to get seals and even phoned Centurion Lada. was prepared to drive to Pta to get seals. They dont have any. They send the cylinders someware to be fixed. So we put the cylenders back together with the old seals just to see if the gearbox and diff etc. are 100%. What a shock!!!!!!! There was a funny noise under the seats. We thought it could be the back diff because we didnt open it and after disconnecting the back propshaft the noise was gone. So probably open the back diff and replace ? bearings, gears... will see. The thing that is worrying me the most is that the 4th gear still jumps out. I replaced all the bearings of the gearbox as well as the front diff. I also replaced the clutch kit. What we didnt do was open the TC. It was just taken out to get to the gearbox and then put back afterwords. Any sugestions on what could be the problem? ?

Geez Zet having to struggle like that is very disheartening!
With regard to the 4th gear - was the thrust washer between the bell housing and the gearbox housing inspected for damage? I presume that the condition of the gears/syncro/-sleeve and the selector fork is fine?

Hi Marius All was inspected and the syncro of the 4th gear was replaced with a as good as new syncro. The selector forks was fine but definately worked on before - "copper braised" The mecanic said they are fine. Im wondering ig it could be the TB. Thats gonna cost a lot of money. Thinking of replacing the clutch master and slave and not just the seals. Wat do u think?
Charles The propshaft is moving freely but the mecanic was wondering why the "splines" move so difficult. Remember i took them back but they said that it should be like that because when driving they will work. They must be difficult to move by hand. Hope u understand this exlination.

Hi Zet
Rather replace the cylinders if you can afford it - they are not that expensive from Pavel. Refurbishing them from CL would probably cost you much more and just replacing the seals might not solve the problem as the inside of the cylinders tend to carode over time - esp if the system wasn't serviced on a regular basis.
I have a feeling that you need to replace the ujoints as well but that is only guess work.
Best of luck Marius

On my box the bearings had play in the casing causing the shafts to move up and down in the box causing it to jump out. Do you have a thrust washer in the box?

Update and possibly good news We took out the rear propshaft yesterday but put it back again this morning. We went for another drive and when the funny noise started again we took the cover of the gearlevers of to see under at the TC and Propshafts. It seems as if the propshaft was touching that plate thing that holds TB. the thing that looks like a saddle. dont know the name and cond find it in the spares list

That is very good news Zet There should be a flat adjusting plate on top of the TC mounting bracket - AND on top of that should be a spacer/shim on each of the corners (4). You probably just need to lower the TC a bit. The most likely source of the sound is the grease nipple on the outside of the front prop shaft touching the mounting bracket (saddle like thingy) The reason why you did not hear it with the rear prop shaft removed is that the TC's weight transfers slightly to the front prop shaft with the rear one removed. Hope this solves that problem. Marius

Thanx Marius. I will have a look later during this week. The plan is as follows I have credit with Ventz so im ordering the master and slave from him. After that when the clutch works properly I can plan what comes next. The 4th gear still jumps out but only sometimes so I need to look at that when the clutch is 100%. when I bought the lada it didnt work at all. didnt go into 4th gear. so it is better. Hopefully I can get that fixed. Then when she is purring like a kitten im taking her for n sh!t, shave and champoo. :-)

Could be that they reassembled the GB saddle the wrong way around ot they put the front prop in the wrong way around.
