Hi
I found the problem today as to why the left window is faster than the right, the cable has worn thru one of the pulleys. And now I need another pulley.

Hi Ari.
Which one of the pulley worn thru. If it is the top pulley you need to fit an aftermarket Toyota Venture meganism.
The reason you cannot replace the top pulleyis that only a panelbeater can split the door and replace it and refit the two halves back again.
All the best.
Regards.

Hi Hercules
No luckily it is the bottom front pulley and the one guy in our complex said he would make me one out of mild steel, he works at an engineering shop.

Hi Ari The pulleys have lasted a long time, check them all while you have someone to make them for you. It also shows you the electric winders are also of a good quality Ronnie

Hi Charles
Do you mean the handles only or do you talking of the winder mechanism?. I think it was Toyota venture mechanism I replaced in mine, and I am surprised it still works as I was not at all impressed with the way it "works". It is extremely difficult to line it up and whoever did it originally made BIG fixing holes which did not help.

Hi Marius
The passenger side is still original only the drivers has been converted. I think if the original was greased occasionally it would give no problems.

Hi Guys
Does anybody have a couple of pics of aftermarket window winder mechanisms fitted? Or is anybody willing to strip their door and take a couple of pics for me?
Thanks

Hi Marius Thanks but I have those. Was hoping someone with a venture regulator fitted will be willing to take a couple of pics. Want to find out what mechanism works the best and then order that one. All of them are R165 so it doesn't matter which one I use. The one from a mazda magnum would have worked fantastic. It only has a runner in the middle and then two wires that runs to the winder, so you can mount the winder anywhere. It looks similar to this one. Charles

Hi Charles I have one fitted to mine as does Hercules. It is difficult to take a photo as the parts are behind the door inner skin. I would recommend you buy a genuine Toyota winder and not aftermarket as the aftermarket ones are of dubious quality. At the winder there are 3 fixing screws to drill and it is important these are drilled correctly so that the window goes up true and not tilted. The vertical runners are there to guide the window and NOT to keep it vertical. The position of the 3 screws controls this. I must warn you this job sucks . I have a feeling I have posted a picture somewhere so I will have a look. Ronnie

Hi Ronnie.
I agree. This job of fitting a venture mechanism is just as worse as a visit to the mother in law. This is just plain s**t. ;D
I wait for somebody to fit a Mazda or equivalent electric winder and if it work. I will replace mine.
Regards.

Hi Charles Look under technical window winders. I see I said 3 screws there is 4 but whoever fitted mine originally made BIG holes and I have put in BIG washers, 3 only as by this time I was totally pi---d off. Ronnie

Dr Mike, please make sure about that merc winder. I still have to start this repair as well. The driverside mechanism is stripped, so that would require a complete replacement. The left works, but not convincingly. What can I do to keep it going?

Hi Ronnie
I was at the scrap yard today and they have a huge variety of window regulators. Looked at a couple. They have lots of genuine toyota ones. All the toyota ones are basically the same. I took a mazda one with me as it is a cable one. With just one vertical runner. I think ones of those will work best seeing as it just goes up and down. No chance of tilting. The one from a 323 is the correct Len, but the cables to the winder is too short. So I will not be able to mount it in the standard position. Unless I convert it to electric then I can mount it anywhere. Will go back tomorrow and look a bit more. I am hoping there is one the same just with the cables longer. Otherwise I will get a toyota one.
In your second picture, the one of the slide. Is the slide only connected on the one side? Honestly I dont think it will be that difficult to fit. I have alot of experience of fitting and repairing regulators.

Hi Charles, I think the whole forum is keeping close tabs on this thread. Please take plenty of pictures as you go along. This is the one thing that bothers me about my Lada. The winders were stiff when I got it. Stripped out the door panels. Everything was bone dry. I sprayed and greased every pulley and piece of cable as well as the side guides. Much better now BUT I think the damage has been done Good hunting Spikes

Spikes I will do that. I dont like the idea of the venture one. I WANT a single runner. Will hopefully get my hands on one tomorrow. Then I just have to make mounting brackets.

Spencer well the best is to grease it well and hope for the best. i am busy looking to try a vw winder or similar as these russian one's are driving me nuts. the merc one well must try and get hold of the chap who has it fit and have a look again. WHAT ABOUT A FIAT UNO WINDER MMMMMM WILL LOOKINTO IT.
