Hello people I started working on the Lada again. Here are some pics. The spare wheel, the battery bracket and the mountings have been sand blasted and zinced. The cylinder head and the cam. Could somebody please let me know what part this is, because I can't remeber where this goes or what it does. Please guys, help me with these two gaskets; where do they go? Thanks guys, I hope this all goes well. I'm looking foward to driving my Lada again! Dheer

Good luck with assembly, Dheer. The other part looks like a clamp of sorts. Someone will be along to ID it for you

dheer, i don't recognize the mystery part, but i have a pretty good idea of what it could be. Do you drive a Niva multipoint injection by any chance? If not, please post an other pic, whit an other part next to it, so we have an idea about how big or small it is

Good luck with the putting back together Fansingh – I’m sure these clever guys will have you sorted out in no time. Unfortunately, all I can offer you is my support - although I’m pretty good at creating problems I’m not all that great at fixing them!

Dheer, when I stripped my Lada's engine, (carby model) I did not find a similar part on the engine.

Danie, when you stripped your motor, did it have an oil separator drain pipe?

I removed the sump and put in the Drain Pipe Lock. The thing is, I do not have an oil separator drain pipe. Does anybody have one for me? Dheer

Danie, when you stripped your motor, did it have an oil separator drain pipe? Dheer Hi Dheer I've got a feeling that the drain pipe is missing on my Lada as well. Oversize pistons have been installed to the engine before I have bought the Lada, and I think there is a possibility that the pipe has not been re-installed... The engine is still mounted to an engine stand, I will just flip it over and have a proper look. Danie P.S. Charles, I will send more pics as soon as everything is ready.

Hi Dheer I think the bottom of the dipstick pipe should fit into the "drain pipe lock"

Hi Dheer I find this thread very interesting , because it is helping me - a lot . I have just checked my Lada's engine, and I discovered that the oil separate drain pipe is indeed missing ! Believe me, my Lada has been running at least almost 60 000 kms without that pipe . (My Lada has covered about 60 000 kms since I bought the car). Anyway, I have removed the sump on my spare Lada engine, and fortunately the oil separator pipe is still in place. I just need to find out how these pipes are connected at the top. It seems to stick like hell - even when the "drain pipe lock" has been removed. Danie P.S. Spikes, I will have a look at my spare engine tomorrow evening - to make sure whether the "dipstick pipe" do stick into the "drain pipe lock".

Danie & Dheer
This is now really interesting to say the least. @danie, was your "spare" NIVA engine ever previously opened? The drawings in the spares manual are also not too clear on where exactly the bottom pipe should go. But I do not think the engine will go bang without it at all. Danie's engine(60K) is proof of that
Do keep us posted please

Hi Spikes
Since I have bought the spare engine about 5 years ago, the engine has been opened three times :
1. The Cylinder Head has been removed by myself, and sold to an ex member at the original (crashed) forum.
2. The oil pump has been removed by myself previously - to have a close look at the gear condition.
3. This evening, when I have had a look at the oil separate drain pipe.
I hope to take some pics of the oil separate pipe on the spare engine tomorrow evening - we got hold of a better quality camera recently, and I still need to find out how to send smaller pics to the forum. Yesterday I did experience some problems when I tried to forward a pic to this forum.

Hi Danie and Spikes I would think that you would have to take off the oil seperator cover, then tap the drain pipe up towards the oil seperator. Hopefully, it would then come off. I'm eagerly awaiting the pics. And thanks again guys. Dheer

Hi Dheer / Spikes
I've had a look a bit earlier this evening - the dipstick does stick into the oil separator drain pipe.
Unfortunately I could not take any pics yet. My wife use the camera for work purposes, and it was already dark outside when she arrived back at home. The spare / nagged Lada engine is lying at a dark spot outside, and I hope to take a pic tomorrow.
