HI Calla.
I have had to do this conversion last year. I'll take some pics tomorrow.
Two issues I encountered was the angle of the adjustment bracket had to be tweaked by force (hammer of thor as that thing was really hard) and spacers where it attaches to the engine.
The other problem was alignment. I had to saw off some of the foot of the new alternator and space up the back to move it forward on the lada hinge bracket. Mine is still not perfectly aligned, but I am hoping to repair the original in the near future.
Why do you want a 90amp? Are you planning on welding from it?
Regards Spencer

Charles, the new one seems too thick ......you have to check first if it fits.

Hi Spencer
The thought of a on board welder has crossed my mind. My original alty has been butchered with a regulator and has blown a diode. Light stays on the whole time. The 90amp I have lying around. Also its a Bosch. So parts will never be a problem.
I will appreciate the pics.

Most likely the brushed that went.
I decided today to rather repair my original alty. Someone has allready fitted a external regulator to it.
I talked to a a guy at a spares shop who has owned 15 Nivas. Jip 15! He says a Lucas alty from a Ford Sierra/Sapphire/Granada is a straight fit.
Hope this helps.

The voltage regulator sits inside the alternator, mine has been fitted with one on the outside as the internal one is not available locally.

Hi Guys.
Sorry about the pics not being on yet. Just got home.
My original alty also toasted diodes on the plate. And that caused a whole cascade of issues with the engine management and ruined batteries.
Will try to get it on tomorrow.
I would imagine some other alternator could be a perfect fit. There are probably only about 3 manufacturers worldwide.

Hi guys.
I need some help please. I only have very basic knowledge of car electronics and can't find the problem.
My battery keeps running flat.
To try and find the problem, I took out the fuses one by one to see which one provides the spark on the positive of the battery.
I had no luck, as not one made a difference.
All I managed to find out is that the radio seems to me is not connected to any fuse.
So I think that it might be the radio that is the problem. I would like to connect the battery to the ignition so that it only works when the ignition is switched on, but I'm not sure how to.
I am looking forward to your advice,
Riaan

Hi Riaan
If you do not have a meter it is not so easy. The Radio wiill (should) not draw enough power to affect the battery with normal use. It should still be OK for a month providing the battery is 100%. If anything has been added that uses a relay make sure the relay is not energized when the ignition is off. Back to the radio, remember if the unswitched wire to the radio is not alive at all times you will lose all the stored settings IE preset stations etc.

Sorry for dumping all the battery related post on you, Riaan. But we had 4 other threads regarding Battery problems. You should be able to find a solution in the extended thread

Thanks charles
Will see what the difference in price is and make a decision.
What make of battery are you using?

The 628 is a better fit. Also much cheaper. I just use the 647 sometime to keep it charged. The 628 is a better option if you do not want to modify th battery bracket.

since a few days my alt wouldn't charge more then 13V, and most of the time even less. I knew my alt was running on its last legs so i took it in for repair. Result: max 13V After some investigation i found that i forgot to put on the earth cable from gear box to chassis with the last gear box job Put it back on and all was fine

there's a ground cable from one of the slave cilinder bolts to the chassis. it's the one and only ground cable from engine/gb to chassis. A petrol Niva has one from the cilinder head to the firewall

I learned something new today. I assumed they all had a cable to the cylinder head.
