Sparky, that looks quite interesting, and it might be very helpful as well.
I guess that's An aftermarket Distributor Cap, mounted to a new Lada Distributor ?

A Niva distributor, looks like a golf dizzy cap and golf TCI and harness. That got used to convert Hein's 1600 to electronic ignition.

Hi Sparky, It sounds as if you are clued up with car electrics and electronics if you do interesting things like this! What will it cost to do a mod like this? I visited your fishing website but unfortunately it looks like a website for sea-fisherman only? I like the name of the website! Regards, Fanus

Hi Sparky,
I tried this Christmas period to catch a tiger fish there in Komatipoort but had no luck, only caught kurper and baber (catfish). oh, yes and a waterskilpad or two (sorry do not know the English name for this stinky). I did not take any fishing gear with and had to use a small pink girlie fishing rod, but I was surprised how well it worked!
Please let me know what your engineering friend will ask to machine the parts for the Golf distributor mod?
Regards,
Fanus

Hi Danie, Indeed. I did actually not consider it. In my view it as an absolute steal at that price! R850.00 before shipping and 'gryp alles while you can' tax. Takes some getting used to. Maybe we should speak to the ANC suckers to contact Putin for the odd power station or two? I just get the idea that Putin will not fall for the bribe thing. Come to think about it, it rules him out immediately! Shoe, I feel really sorry for you to read about your bike that needs a rebuild. It can not be the revs that killed the motor? You should try synthetic oil next time, after the run in of course. I am talking the real stuff here. It is relay the stuff for motorcycle engines (heat transfer properties). If you have the money send the engine for a balance first (suggestion). It add years to the life of an engine if done properly. Regards, Fanus

Fanus What about the plug that is already fitted to the NIVA's block to cover the distributor hole? Could that not be adapted to fit the shaft of a golf distributor? Spikes

Good Morning All,
I require some technical info/assistance please? I was busy servicing my Lada's Distributor when the little Noise Resistor/Suppressor got away from me due to it being spring loaded, now as Murphy would have it, I cannot find it!
Has anyone got any info on where to find a replacement and/or whether anyone has made a successful modification to a standard Distributor?
Thanking All in advance for the support and assistance in this regard.
Regards, JSJ

Hi all
I use my 1.7carb as daily transport, done 13 000km since I got it and sitting on 107 000km overall. Last night it failed to start, no spark.
Would I be correct in assuming it's a distributor problem? I've found the golf modification as a change I might make in the future, but any suggestions on things to check would be greatly appreciated!

Boosman, firstly welcome to the forum, even though you joined in Sep last year, I see that it is your first post above.
The problem could be 1 of many, I assume you have checked that their sufficient voltage at the battery?
Could be rotor, coil, solenoid or HT leads damaged or not seated properly.
I am sure Charles or Ari will provide more info soon.

steve I thank you for the fast reply. Tes even though I haven't posted before, but have found some very valuable advice here. A problem started last week, erratic idle and stalling at stops. Sunday I checked the carb, found the choke cable dry and not closing completely. Oiled the cable and refitted, working fine now. Cleaned the carb and fitted new solenoid and idle jet last night. Started perfectly without choke and after setting idled like a dream. But used up a lot of fuel during problem finding so pulled the car out of the garage to go and fill it up. On reversing the car spluttered and died, as it is on a downhill I assumed it was from fuel starvation. Filled it from a can and tried again, no start. Upon switching on the lights, electric fuel pump, starter et al all starts up but no ignition. Duringthe innitial problem finding last week I cleaned the distributor and removed the rotor, contacts on top worn, took it to the local spares shop in Tzn and they said it's very worn but they don't know of any replacement. Replaced the rotor, cleaned out all remaining resedue and closed it up. Started numerious times after that. Last night after finishing the carb and running into this new problem we tried to pullstart it with no luck, just runs behind in second. Checked for spark, non excisting. Well that's all the information I can supply at the moment.

Welcome Boosman This distributor cap fits: Distributor cap (See write up on forum p3 of Technical Section"After Market spares. A mod is required) Eclin EP 214 Auto Spares stockist Info form the Major Maintenance spares list the can be found here: locsa.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=technical&action=display&thread=1331The mode works very well As far as I know Hercules is still running his with that cap I see you make no mention of the coil and related wiring. That could also be the culprit as Steve pointed out. Spikes

Spikes, I am not convinced of the mod as Bevan made the mod and converted back a few weeks later, I am not sure of his reasons but will find out.

Hi Steve and Boosman, I am not referring to Bevan's conversion. This is what I refer to; ""Re: Aftermarket / Replacement Spareparts, and Mods « Reply #36 on Nov 24, 2009, 9:45pm » Another part that can be modify to work is the distributor cap. Use an Eclin EP214 cap available at any spare parts dealer and file the blank off away next to the cut out locater and it fit perfectly and works very well. The Lada cap is a modified Fiat 124 cap and is made in the same mould, thats why the blank off next to the locater cut out. The manufacturer just changed the blank off to make the two different caps. Regards. Hercules."" Read more: locsa.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=technical&action=display&thread=14&page=3#ixzz2RTackQYG It uses the std distributor but replaces the cap with worn out contacts Spikes
