Hi Steve
The fuel tank has two small outlets on top, one to a side that each have it own pipe running to the vapour box connecting to the two thin pipes. The pipe for the left hand side (On my NIVA)is quite long and could easily fold underneath the tank

Hi Spikes I think I didnt explain my question very well. I can see where the two pipes from the tank enter the vapour box, each with its own connector. But the third pipe connected to the vapour box runs to a t-peice. Then one pipe goes to the fuller cap hole, but the other pipe runs under the petrol tank, and to I dont know where. Is this supposed to be there? Should I remove this pipe and t-piece?

Ok, we are on the same page now. No that pipe is correct and the T piece is connected to fuel pressure relief valve.
The pipes that give trouble and increase fuel consumption are the ones from the Throttle Body itself. One runs to the Map against the fire wall and the other to the Purge canister. Some one posted a link a while back about the placement of the pipes. I'll find it now and post a link for you

Thanks Spikes. All the hoses are in the right place and seem to be ok. What is the function of the Purge canister? Please excuse my mechanical ignorance.

It purges fuel vapour of excessive hydrocarbons before returning fuel to the tank. It is supposedly filled with active charcoal.
It also incorporates the fuel pressure relief valve. If you are lucky, you may hear it when standing close to it with the ignition on but engine not running.
