Unfortunately there is nothing really new to report.
The discussion was about components which have been listed, and Autozone is still looking at the local Lada market, and considering their options.
In future I will rather just make an announcement once Autozone comes forward with a final decision.

Hi Danie
I would like to know what progress has been made with regard to Autozone? If they are still considering their options with regard to the local Lada Niva market - is there a posiblility that they can replenish their depleted stock of suitable water pumps for the Niva in the mean time?

Hi Marius
During our previous conversation they indicated that they are now only interested in importing engine components.
I initially tried my best to convince them to bring in Gearbox, Drive Train components, Brake cylinders, etc. in as well, but unfortunately they have eventually decided on engine components only.
They also informed me that they would do an investigating on how many Ladas have ever been sold in South Africa, and how many are still on the road (licensed) at the moment. That would finally determine whether they will go ahead with Lada part imports or not.
They have been in contact with a large Lada part Manufacturer - and according to them the Supplier only sells components in very large quantities - that's one of the reasons why they have to make sure how many Ladas are still on the road at the moment. Apparently they can get this info from the Licensing Departments.
They undertook to let me know as soon as they have made a final decision , and I haven't heard anything from them yet.
I will contact them by Friday to get more details.

Sorry about this late reply - Autozone is still in process of trying to find out exactly how many Ladas are still licensed at the moment.
I do not want to pass comments here every day, and hope to get more information before the end of this week.

Hi All
I am still in contact with Autozone, and at this stage I think the "good news" might soon become "bad news".
Autozone has done their homework, and there do not seem to be that many registered Ladas left in South Africa. Autozone will make a final decision during the next week, as their suppliers are only prepared to supply parts in large quantities.

Hi All
Autozone has contacted me today about their final decision, so in short, here it comes:
According to the numbers supplied to Autozone by the different Licensing Authorities, there are currently 934 registered Ladas left in South Africa, and according to Autozones own prediction, there will by only (about) 600 registered Ladas left by the end of 2014.
With these numbers in mind, Autozone has also had a close look at the total sales figures during the past couple of years - of all Lada replacement parts in their possession. Unfortunately the turnover of all Lada parts in their possession is very slow.
So unfortunately Autozone decided NOT to import / supply any Lada parts - other than the parts which they do supply already.
The good news is that Autozone has confirmed their commitment to keep on supplying the Lada parts which have been supplied in the past - in fact, they undertook to send me a list of all Lada parts in their possession , by the end of July 2012.
So that's it - anyone who would like to verify this info , is welcome to contact Autozone Head office :

Contact person : Mr. Wynand Strauss.

Thanks for the update Danie, and the effort you put into the whole survey. Now we have another reason to hang onto our NIVAs Only 934 of them on road

No problem Spikes.
Just an update to my post , above. According to Autozone's prediction, there will only be about 600 Ladas left at the end of 2014 - not 2012 as originally indicated at my initial post. I have just changed the date at my post, above.
During the past couple of months I became aware of quite a few Ladas in the Durban area which have serious rust problems - so sadly I do agree with Autozone's projection figures. Large numbers of Ladas will be scrapped during the next few years.
Even Chris Swale's Lada clearly has serious rust problems, and he do not seem to do anything about it.
Moral of this post - let's rather try to motivate Lada owners to make sure that their Lada's will not become rusted wrecks. To my mind modifications (like 2WD, etc.) is completely acceptable - as long as the owner do make sure that the Lada does not become a rusted wreck.

Yes Danie. Rust is a big killer of cars in your area. Here in gauteng its not that bad. Its too bad that there are so few ladas on the road. My resprayd lada did not have sealant in the window rubbers and traps water there.

Hi Danie
Thanks for all your efforts in this regard - it is great to know that we can at least get some Lada parts from Autozone. With over 900 registered Nivas in SA LOCSA still has quite some margin for membership growth in future.

Thanks Marius / Darryn - I must actually thank everyone for the positive response, which played a major role in keeping me going.
I must admit, by times I have been highly irritated by the slow process, in getting an answer from Autozone.
Just for the record - to explain why I was involved in getting more spare parts from Autozone, and at the same time pushing very hard to promote Pavel's service at this Forum:
When I got in contact with Autozone Head office, they immediately told me tat they are only interested in importing engine components. Right from the start I new that there was almost no change that they would supply other fast moving parts - like Gearbox components.
At the time when Charles discovered Pavel, I already new that Autozone will most probably never sell Gearbox components, so I immediately decided to try Pavel's service as well.
Soon after I got in contact with Pavel, I became aware of the fact that one of the local Suppliers was also in contact with Pavel, and according to indications was probably trying to became 'sole distributor"of Pavel's parts in South Africa.
Therefore I immediately started pushing very hard, to promote Pavel's service at this website. During this time I was perfectly aware, and very worried about the fact that the Autozone Officials could visit this website, and see my efforts to promote Pavel's service.
But I was even more worried about the possibility that one of the local Suppliers could "hijack" Pavel for himself . The fact that Autozone did not show any commitment to import other parts, (i.e. Gearbox components) finally made me decide to "push" Pavel's service very hard at this forum.
So right or wrong - that's the complete story.
