hi guys, i have found a fitment centre with these tyres! I also found a tyre (185/75r16c), is it ok to use? works out to R730 each!!! the "c" probably refer to a commercial type of tyre which may perhaps not be suitable to off-road use

i'd settle for the nankang! ventz has a set of the original tyres @ R1600 each, comparing the price difference which your'll recon would be better?

You did mention that you can get the Nankangs for R1050 fitment and balancing included. R730 for the other makes sounds very good indeed! What make and what type of tyre is it? I presume this also includes fitment? Sounds like Tyre Traders?

sorry for the late reply, having login problems, did e-mail the website! actually the tyres are from beltyres, the make is belshire! never heard of it before, fitting not included! i'll contact these guys again & find out more on applications of the tyre! the tyre ventz has is the originals that came with the lada, says one of his customers got 120 000km of the with circulating them at service intervals. what milage can you get from the nankangs?!!!

I am a big fan of the original M+S Russian tyres and if I had looked after them a bit better I probably would have reached the 100+ mark with them. I got well over 80 000kms with my set. The price tag (R1600) is however a bit much though. The Nankangs are much cheaper and offer a full AT type tyre that will probably last just as well. Nankangs are well known for their value and durability.

Just out of interest. In 2009 a Russian tyre company offered the VLi-10's (this is the original tyre)for $38(USD) if you paid cash. If it was a down payment - $39.50!

This is NANKANG. A little bit harder and noisier, mainly for off-road.

This is the original smooth factory tyre 50/50 off-road/on-road. Could roll to over 100K km; I personally don't know any other brand tyre to survive such a mileage.

Thanks to you Ari, I learned from your step-by-step instructions. But took me a long time. I was afraid with the new site upgrade I need to start learning from the beginning; thankfully not.
Now - can you explain how to upload a suitable avatar; I had before but suddenly disappeared.

1. Click on your name, 2. Click on "edit profile" (near top on right) 3. Choose 2nd option "Use only the Uploaded/Linked" 4. Click on this "load/Link Delete" (This does not want to work Steve( , link won't work)

I have had the pleasure of using both these tyres and I have no doubt that the VLi-10's are very solid and durable. The only thing that would stop me from buying them is the local price tag of R1600. Normal retail in Europe is less than R600 if I remember correctly.
I have used the Nankangs FT-7's for two years now and I am very happy with the overall performance - whether on tar or on gravel and especially in wet conditions. At around R1000 I consider them a huge bargain. ALL the other guys who bought them are more than satisfied with their performance.

Here is a very interesting blog on (testing) tyres for the Niva. The K-156-1 Niva 4x4 was spesifically designed for the Niva with great results, but unfortunately the company who made them went bust. The thread design is not unlike that of the Nankangs (ZigZag pattern) and the test results show similar performance from what I have experienced so far. noteshairenik.blogspot.com/2013/04/a-lesson-in-shopping-for-niva-tires.htmlMarius

Here is a nice site that gives a visual, as well as a bunch of other interesting dimensions on tyre size repercussions: www.rimsntires.com/specs.jspI didn't know if i should post it here or start a new topic for it
