Hi guys,
I'm looking to smarten up my Lada with some alloy mags and after cruising parking lots with a tape measure to calculate PCD, I've found that the Mahindra alloys look as if they will fit.
Has anyone been down this track before, will these rims fit - I'm not too worried about offset, can't win them all!
Are there any other rims that I can look at? From what I've seen the only rims in shops are the traildusters and they don't really do much for the eye!
Thanks, mark

Hi Mark
Try and see if you can find a set of Sidekick alloy rims.

Hi Mark I seem to remember the Mahindra rims do not fit. Here is a pic of the Sidekick rims which are the correct offset. Ronnie Attachments:

Hi Mark The measurement between the Lada studs (center to center) is 85mm. You could take measurements on a Mahindra rim (looks like you have done that already) and see if it's a match. I initially though Tata rims would fit, but it won't - maybe Mahindra and Tata measurements are the same: locsa.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=204I agree with Ronnie - Sidekick rims look great on a Lada. HI IF YOU ARE NOT WORRIED ABOUT OFFSET THEN GET SOME ADAPTOR PLATES MADE THEN YOU WILL BE ABLE TO FIT ANY TYPE OF RIM. THATS HOW THEY DID IT ON SOME OF THE PIMPED OUT LADAS OVERSEAS.

Hi Suzuki and Diahatsu rims do fit. My mags seem to come from a Suzuki Grand Vitara.

Hi,
Hey Mike, don't encourage the forum members to do such a mods. It is unacceptable for the car's health and your own safety to do this. The brakes, steering, wheels/tyres - that is your life. You may have not engine, but the elements above should be in perfect order. And the offset is very important.
Actualy the forum is full of shocking dangerous modification, but it's all your business. I'm not goin' to argue there.
Options for rims:
1. Old Suzuki Samuray. The rim fits, offset wrong. 2. Lada Sidekick mags - probably the best and easyest option. The offset is not perfect 100%, but acceptable. 3. The old KIA Sportage 15" steel rims - fits perfect; offset perfect - better than the Sidekicks. 4. Check the new Sportage alloy rims - could be with the same shape like old ones, it is logical but I can't be sure. 5. Daihatsu - I checked once upon a time a rim from Daihatsu Feroza, doesn't fit. May be some other models? 6. Suzuki Vitara - probably, I don't know. 7. Suzuki Jimny - looks perfect for Lada. I measured it with tape, everything seems OK, but never fit it on Lada to test it; there was no spare rim in the showroom in my town and I didn't want the salesman to strip the new car for my own test . If somebody of you have a chance to check it, it will be useful for all of us. 8. Traildusters with the right offset were available at the end of 1990's. Later the factory in Port Elizabeth (or in East London, I don't remember exactly) stop to produce them. We tryed to order some in Y2000 but they did not interested to make it again. If somebody has a chance to find some of them - OK. 9. There are some mags and traildusters in Tiger Wheel and Tyre which fit, but they are with so wrong offset - even the Lada fender peels pieces of the rubber when turning and the steering is real mission. Stay away of them.

Hi Ventz Thanks for your input on the rims. As far as other mods are concerned you are welcome to comment on any of them which you consider dangerous or not in the Lada`s best interest. In fact I should not say "welcome to comment" but should say you "must comment". I think I speak for all by saying this Forum is dedicated to keeping the Lada name alive and the vehicles running. You are probably more capable than most others to help us achieve this Ronnie

Hi Ventz
I fully agree with Ronnie - I feel that your input is very important for ALL OF US. The same goes for any other dealer or mechanical engineer.
It is now sad to see (some would not agree) that Jan is allegedly out of business. I would have liked to see him get involved on this forum.
The idea is to move forwards - not backwards.
Regards
Marius

Hi Comrade Marius We agree on the first . On the second I will make no comment . I notice his web site is still up and running. Perhaps one of our members close by can check and advise if he is still trading. Comrade Ronnie

Karma. That's all I'll say about that.
It's good for us all that we have an actual lada expert in our midst. Also, bear in mind that if you crash and Insurance has to pay out, they will find any reason not to- some mods fall neatly into the category of "reasons not to pay". I've had a look at the fine print of my insurance (and others) and if you modify certain aspects of a vehicle, they'll not pay out (if they have sharp inspectors they might catch one out).
Just saying...

I always wanted to be helpful and to share "know-how", but nobody listens - long years bitter experience. And when the nuisance later happened - they are not ashamed to themselfs but angry to me. It is much easyer to keep neutrality.

Hi Ventzel.
I agree with Ronnie and I surely take to heart and listen what you said and the comments you give. I learned the hard way on my Lada the Last 6 years I drove it as everybody here at the East Rand just knockes the Lada as you got a problem and start ask around for help. The agent close by also were not of a big help and just robbed you when buying any thing from him. That was my reason for surching for replacement parts at reasonable prices to keep the little beast running. If I didn't look after it I would have never get the milage on it that I got to date. It is due for 210000km service next month and still going strong.
Thanks for your input and comments on this forum and may we go for many years to keep our beloved vehicles running the roads and fields of this country.
Regards.

I think I speak for all by saying this Forum is dedicated to keeping the Lada name alive and the vehicles running. I agree Ronnie - and without blowing our whistle too much, I believe that this very Forum is the only way to keep the Lada "alive" in this country. Like Hercules, I also believed that we had to start looking for replacement parts, and other ways to keep this cars running. Unfortunately certain things had to be said at this forum in order to get things back to an acceptable standard. We do need to move on now and forget about the past. Regards Danie

Hi Hercules,
To reach 210000 km is a good run for your 6 years. What was the mileage when you bought it?
I heard that somebody in JHB has a Niva with mileage over 1000000 km. Is that true? Does anybody knows this fellow?

Guys this is a bit off topic I know, I dont know if it is only here but I am seeing alot more Ladas on the roads. I just hope more of them would join the forum. I invited a guy today to join, but he doesn;t have internet and he bought the Lada because he is moving to Zambia. Would have been nice to have him onboard when he is living there. I wonder how many Ladas are running around in Africa.

Hi Ventz
You will note from the response that we all want you to continue with your opinion of any mods any one is contemplating. your comments good or bad are needed. It is up to the person concerned to pay attention and make the right decision. You are in the unique position to give the correct advice, and many of us will take that advice. You are the only Lada expert who has taken the time to input to this Forum. The Forum should benefit and I would hope the members will make sure you benefit as well.

Hi Ronnie / Ventz
The warnings against certain mods makes sense - but I believe we should except the fact that some owners still prefer to do these mods on their Ladas, despite of these warnings.
As far as myself is concern - I am fully prepared to except any possible problems due to current, as well as future mods to my Lada.
Warnings are always welcome, but we should respect the discretion of each owner in this regard at all times.
Regards
Danie

Hi ventz.
The Lada had 139000km on the clock when I bought her for the wife. Two major repairs were done to date. 1st the gearbox 3 weeks after I bought her and the head 2 years ago when the timing chain tensioner broke and flatten the valves. The Lada is our daily travel vehicle to work and back.
Regards.
