What have you found to be a good brand? Most of my tools are Gedore. It is time for a new long nose pliers. Was wondering what all of you have found to be good.

Hi Charles
When it comes to pliers and side cutters there is only ONE make - Crescent made in USA. I also have a lot of Geodore, but I am still using my Britool socket set and torque wrench bought in 1962.

For me - i have a mixed bag of various metric, SAE and Imperial spanners. I have every brand (just about of spanner including Snap-On, Britool, Crescent, Gedore, King Tony and even a Lobster brand shifting. I would love to have a single set of Snap-On metric tools.

I would also like a snap on set. But man they are expensive. But they are the best in the world. The set I want is just under R200 000. Donations accepted.
Does anyone know if stahlwillie is still produced?

Main socket set is Hazet + 8 piece Britool non-metric sockets Screw drivers are mixed bunch. I tend to loose them only to find it as soon as I bought a new driver 3 genuine vice grips and one missing in action at the moment. Spanners are mostly gedore with a few stahwille as well. Have to buy a 12mm allen key (socket type for the NINA) And then a set of beargrip mm sockets on 1/4" drive

Hi All This is the original top tray out of my 50 years old Britool socket set. The two front rows are the A/F and whitworth sockets which came with the set. The rest have been added over the years. The Torque Wrench was bought at the same time as the socket set. Ronnie Attachments:

Hi Charles
When you are young you do not have money for the tools you want and need, and when you are old, and do not need so many you have plenty. I have been collecting for 50 years and am a bit like you---- everything I saw I wanted. I know exactly what I have as I have been listing everything for insurance purposes.

Tools are your best asset when you do your own work/repairs. I got a full set of stahlville tool with a wall mound toolbox and trolley. The tools I had to buy when I was an appy and pay very long for it. The box consist of metric, imperial and whitworth spanners and sockets and every thing else you ever need. Even got a 1/4" stahlville socket set.
In the vehicle tool box I used gedore or any other fairly good make tools.
Stahlville tools is still avalible at a cost.
Regards.

Hi Douw and all
Any good pawn shop is a place where you can find some real gems. I tend to buy what I need. The only thing I've spend real money on is a good quality trolly jack (3.5 tons) that can lift the front of the Lada high enough.

Before I can expand on any tools I will need to get a garage. Over the weekend I was told I do my mechanics like a real Russian, in the middle of nowhere. ;D

Hi Marius When I lived in Florida Glen I walked into the local spares shop, and there was a nice 3.5 ton trolley jack. About R350 changed hands and here is the jack. This was bought for the Landy as the normal trolley jack you buy was an effort to lift it with. Ronnie Attachments:

Hi Charles Here is another 60`s 1/4 " socket set. The only thing I had to replace was the ratchet which broke a few years ago. Also had to add metric sockets. Ronnie Attachments:

Hi Douw I also visited Pawn shops on a regular basis. At the recent stock take I had a total of 220 spanners all good quality and plenty were bought at the pawn shops. Here is another 1/4' drive socket set Hazet which I also think is very good quality. Ronnie Attachments:

Those are real nice socket sets Ronnie - and they cost a small fortune if you buy them new. Bargain price for that trolley jack! Marius

But tools they make these days are not as the ones of those days. Quantity over quality.

The screw driver socket head and 1/2'' socket was missing. To date the ratchet lever broke. Oh yes I also drove over the box:(

Hi Charles
It is like hacksaw frames the ones nowadays flex all over the place. I have bought 2 old eclipse ones in pawn shops for R10 each. If you keep your eyes open you will get what you want. I did check the pawn shop in Scotburgh with Vincent, but the prices were ridiculous.
