The Cat 994 is Massive. The members in the Witbank / Middelburg Area will have seen the tyres being moved about. They may also have seen the loaders too. The CAT 3516 16 Cylinder engine produces 1100 kw... For a fast round up on the loaders go to: www.vincelewis.net/loader.htmlRegards Vincent Attachments:

Hi Darryn
Yes - When tyres cost R350 000 each you protect them as best you can.
the chains also provide additional traction in muddy conditions.

I was at the 994's smaller sibling the other day. A CAT 966. For those that are wondering why the Rusti has no plates - the ND number that was on the car are now allocated to a Hilux bakkie. It does have 21 day paper permit on the LHS window. Attachments:

Vincent is the box still quiet now?
I'm loving the CAT pics. I'm a huge fan of earthmoving equipment. Just hoping to meet somebody oneday who will let me drive them. I would love to take a 793C for a spin.

Hi Vincent That looks very much like a 5th gear tooth. See the yellow marks on the pic. Marius Attachments:

IF that is the case you should inspect the cluster gear for damage as well. It might have been caused by a broken bolt. Marius Attachments:

Hi Marius
Having actually seen the piece of steel it looks very like the piece of a washer. it is very thin and is completely smooth on both sides.

Hi Ronnie
Not too many thin washers down there? It also looks too wide and polished for a circlip? Hopefully Vincent might be a very lucky man with his 5th gear chewing something that did not belong in the gearbox in the fist place.
Maybe a case of shite where did that washer go?! ;D

Well I have once found a bunch of chewed up keys in a sump so anything is possible.

The box continues on and all the gears look in excellent condition. I will look at replacing the bearings at some point as they are noisy (for me)
Is it possible to replace the bolt without pulling the whole box marius?

I know for a fact that there is CAT D6D with a 3/4" Ring spanner in the final drive / steering clutch.
It fell in as we were closing it up. It would have taken almost a week to strip everything off again, so it was welded to the bottom of the clutch pack.
It is amazing how a spanner will fall in PERFECTLY but refuses to come out again no matter what you try to get it out.
The machine never came back with a failure :-)

Hi Vincent Unfortunately you will have to take it all down and remove the cover/casing on the 5th/reverse gear in order to get to that bolt. Chances are that the bolt is still in place if there is no damage on the 5th gear components though. Marius

Hey Ari, That looks like a Lada shell on a Kamaz or other chassis. It does look that very little will stop that monster !!! Are there any other details on the Niva?
Regards Vincent
