Hi there everyone,
After a closer look at the dashboard I decided to do a rebuild of it, or at least try. The whole thing is brittle and it irritates me. I had a look at what Ronnie did with his and it is still an option. Then there is the possibility to fiberglass it. I'm not to fond about working with fiberglass.
So, I am going to try it with wood. Either Marine Ply as it is good in a wet environment (don't ask why I'm thinking about this...hahaha) or Supawood as I find it easier to work with. The main reason is to put the Lada 1600 gauges (the sporty round ones) in with, perhaps, some other modifications. I still need to find out if they will fit the electronic connectors (connections) of my Lada. Does anyone know?
Well, that is the plan (or theory) for now.

Hi jaco
I think Darryn tried fiberglass but was not too happy with it. I don`t know what he eventually did.

If the Fiat 128 windscreen fits the Lada then maybe the dashboard will also fit (if you can find one) or find the moulds used to make the Fiat dash and then make your own from a mould. Ari

Hi Ari
The Fiat 128 windscreen does fit as I have one complete with a nice dark band at the top.

Hi Marius
If the vinyl top has had it the wood does not help. There is no way to recover the top so it looks the same as the original. Even if you manage to stretch the vinyl to suit every crack underneath will show. There is also the bigger problem of a suitable adhesive.

Hi Jaco
I would doubt if the connectors will fit, but you will be able to fit crimped terminals to suit.

Hi Marius
It would be so easy if you could start off with a good dash top. I assume the plastic is not made for our Sun.

I already have a couple of chips on my windscreen (no cracks). R3500 is very expensive for the replacement.
Our sun is very harsh on any dash that gets constant exposure and I suppose many Ladas were treated as second/third cars and not parked in a garage/carport.
My very first car - a Golf - suffered the same fate. Fortunately for our Lada the dash still looks good after nearly eleven years.

Hi ll
I have seen prices for the windscreen vary from R3500 to R4500. But I think this is very close to a windscreen for the majority of cars.

Hey Guyskis
I wouldn't recommend using the method I used (using atomotive body filler and covering with black silicone). It looks rubbish. As soon as I can, I'm buying a replacement dash from Ventzislav.
Or I'll just cover the dash with fur. Like those zef okes from Cape Town!

Hi Darryn
You are not allowed to make derogatory remarks about other nationalities and people in general. I would have reported you to the Brakpan High Commision on Derogatory Statements, but fur on the dash seems to be the latest fashion statement over there. Looks like this latest madness is spreading!

Ive seen a quote for over R20 000 for a windscreen for one of the newer cars. Just imagine if you do not have insurance.

Fiat 128 windscreen @ R1928.00 including VAT but fitting excluded NIVA @ R2473.00 as above It will be important to be sure the Fiat 128 screen fits as PG Glass has two totally different part numbers regards all Spikes

Hi Spikes
You have guessed right, My favorite agent fitted it and mentioned it was for a Fiat 128.
Ronnie
PS He took the original out to respray the Niva and his "Operatives" broke it when putting it back. Fortunately the cost came out of his profit.
