Ari not everybody is big and strong like you. Charles Tall yes but not big, I think you weigh more than me and have bigger muscles. Strong . . . not too sure we will need to test that. Ari

Hi Spikes
I have the steel valve stems and caps on my mags, not sure which is better though. I think Douw's spare has a rubber stem with a steel cap.

I just drove home on some very wet roads and the Kangs dealt with the water very well. I have never felt as safe in my Lada.

Hi Spikes
If not deep in the rim I would use the rubber ones as the steel ones might break if you hit a rock with the side of the wheel, especially if they stick out more than the edge of the rim.

Hi Ari That is exactly where the whole thing about steel/rubber started for me. I inquired about short stem rubber valves. TWT said short valves can only be had in steel BUT about 7x more expensive than a normal rubber one. Crazy Spikes

Are you still waiting for the Ft-7's to arrive? It would be very interesting to know how much you paid for the tyres? Regards Marius Thanks for the update Marius... so far the tires sound great. The price I was quoted - although always open to change around here! - was 18,000 ISK or around US$155 per tire with all taxes included. They had to be special ordered, but that just meant adding them to a boat that was already being loaded! This may or may not be of any relivence to the price you negotiated, as we are quite used to paying WAY too much for things here: the joys of living on an island with a population of just over 300,000. Just out of curiosity, do you have one of the new wheels on a spare rim under the bonnet? How does it fit? best regards, -Eric

Hi Eric Most of us only ordered 4 tyres each but the FT-7's we got would fit perfectly under the bonnet - no problem. If you go any wider than 175 you would have a problem. We have the same situation over here with regard to most imports - can be very expensive - we are on the other side of the world 99.9% of our tyres are manufactured locally but we still pay a fortune for them though! Just curious (again) - you guys were really badly knocked by the recession - is the economy recovering? Marius

Hi Marius
Today I have received another phone call from a lady who are interested in buying a set of tyres - I have advised her to register as member at the Forum and to raise a question in this regard.
Maybe it would be very helpful to all prospective buyers if you start a separate prominent thread - which will reveal your contact details, and then make it a "sticky" ?
Dalk sal dit beter wees om sommer die thread te "lock" ook. ?

Good idea Danie. They way everybody is intrested in those tyres looks like Marius will soon have to open a fitment center on the farm. Goats are very clever, just a pitty they will not be able to hold a wheel spanner.

Hi Danie It would be great if she can join as a member and hopefully we can sort her tyres for her. This particular thread was specifically created for this purpose but sometimes we all get sidetracked a bit ;D There is another thread in the General Section specifically dealing with tyres in general whilst this one is supposed to deal with the Nankang import only Anybody interested can just PM me or leave a message on the forum. I will put a sticky on this thread. Hope that is ok with everyone? Marius

Hi Marius
I tried to reply earlier to your question, without success.
Unfortunately the caller's number does not show on my incoming calls. I was quite busy at the time of the call, and did not ask for any contact details.
Perhaps more ads with fresh pics of the tyres fitted to Lada rims could be placed at Junkmail and Gumtree ?

Hi all Regarding the Nankang 175/80R16 FT-7 import >> There is another 30 tyres making it's way to South Africa giving us a total of 52 tyres still up for grabs. This should leave us with a fairly solid supply line for the now. Unit price on these tyres remain at R770 for now. There is also a 205/80R16 available for around R900 per unit. I am not sure about their numbers but they have some in stock at the moment. I can only stress once again that the unit price on the FT-7's is a huge bargain and anyone in need of these tyres should seriously consider getting a set as soon as possible. As far as suitable tyres for the Sidekick's 15" rim - the response to my recent email/PM''s in this regard has not been great to say the least but I will post some possible tyres/prices in the near future. Regards Marius

Hi all The Nankangs are a lot quieter than what the Khumos were on tar. Steering is light and more responsive. Tyre pressure 2.2b in front and 2.0 in back Regards Spikes

Hi Spikes
Nice to know the Nankangs are such an improvement over the Khumos. I am running the same tyre pressure as you at the moment, but "my tyre guy" said we could easily run it at 2.4 at the front and 2.2 at the back - which should improve the steering even more.
I am going to keep it as it is for a while and see how it goes and maybe increase the pressure somewhat at a later stage.

Hi all
The second batch of Nankangs is about to make it's way to the North West Province. I will let you guys know as soon as I get the word from our supplier.
Spikes and Vincent made some interesting comments with regard to the Khumos that came standard with the Sidekick. It comes as quite a surprise to me that the Khumos are heavy on the steering and it would seem that they are fairly noisy too.
Vincent is running 215's which I consider way to wide for the Niva and he reported that the steering on Ronnie's Niva with the Khumos is a lot heavier than his!

Marius Err Chairman, that was until I had it in for Wheel alignment. Now it feels as if I am trying to move the moon out its orbit every time I take the wheel. One good spin off of this is that my wife now refuses to drive the Lada ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D hee hee
