Hi Jan
After spending a lot of time trying to cure vibration, I agree shims are not the answer. I think the 2 nuts on the side of the mounting are part of the trouble as well as the mountings themselves being hard against the mounting studs.

been doing some thinking ;D looking at the transfer case i assume the car is a 1700 with originaly a 5 speed gear box. At some point this gear box has been replaced by a 4 speed. Normaly this is a plug and play operation, BUT...: both the gear box cross member AND the steel/rubber mounting are different. Both MUST be replaced together with the gear box. I think that the steel/rubber mounting was missing and that the 5 speed mounting was used. This will not fit on the 4 speed box and an adaper plate has been made. Because of this the gear box now sits higher in the tunnel and allignment will be difficult/impossible without tilting the TC backwards (front up/rear down). Doing so will ALWAYS make the shaft hitting the cross member. the distance between these 2 holes is different how the mounting must sit: al this thinking made me very tired. I will steal the houshold money and go to the bar. I will slam the barkeeper around and go to bed with his wife in order to get some sleep afterwards ;D

Hi Jan
Your comment that the TC is tipped nose up would explain why the studs for the TC mounting are hard against the back of the slot.

Jan what you said makes perfect sense in fact there an adapter plate has been used. And yes the Gearbox is a 4 speed gearbox and it is a 2002 TBI Lada. From the parts cat I have identified my Lada as follows: Vehicle Model & Version - NIVA 1.7i 212146) Spec - 614 RH Drive
