I drive a 2001 Lada, bought it on the West Coast while staying in Langebaan. Since relocated to Vanderbijl. My Lada has just over 80 000km, and I drive it every day to work.
I am looking for a place where I can take it for a major service, I took it to Lada centurion a while back, but see that they are not recommended...
Would appreciate if I can get the detail of some one who can help me.
I am actually looking to service, and respray it, so any contact will help.

Hi Henried Welcome to the forum. The 3 best people for a major service and respray in the country, are you, Ventz in Pietermaritzburg and Mike in Cape Town. Most, if not all of us service our vehicles ourselves as the vehicles are so easy to work on. Please feel free to ask any questions, we are always willing to share and provide info. Parts are generally always cheaper if you import them, however there is normally a 2 to 3 week wait for shipment. We generally order from www.ladapower.com. Tjeers Steve

Welcome Henrie Hercules did services on NIVAs. Drop him a PM he may still be willing to work on NIVA. Not sure about the respray. Some members get very good service from Centurion Lada, but they are the exception rather than the rule. Steve said it all. If you do not have the workshop manual yet, it is available fro download on the website. Most service items are available from local suppliers. See the list here: locsa.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=technical&action=display&thread=1293Regards Spikes

Thanks.
The salt water took its toll on my Lada, but the major service is what I need now.
My steering is very loos, but I would like a general check of everything as will be driving for some time still.
I went to Jan when we relocated to Vanderbijl, and were happy, but that was in 2006...
Cape Town and even PM is 'n bit to far for me to take the Lada for a service.
I will PM Hercules .

Hi Henried
I do not recommend Lada Centurion. Rather do as the other members do and service it yourself. It is a very basic vehicle and if you have not done it before it is easy and you will get all the advice you need on the Forum.

Thanks for all the detail. I am not mechanical incline, and my limited tool set doesn't help...
I emailed and PM Hercules, hope he would be able to help...
May main concern now is my steering which has a lot of play, the local mech. said they could not see anything and recon I should replace or at lease get it reconditioned.

Hi Henrie
Did you or the Mechanic you consulted check for free play on the tie rod ends? Has the free play on the steering box been adjusted?. There is a complete section on Baxters with clear pictures on adjusting the steering setup(link as provided by Charles)

Hi Henrie
Just don't overdo the adjustment on the box itself. If over adjusted the self centering action of the steering system will be reduced.

The NIVA is so light. Personally I would just replace with Gabriels again. The ride will always be on the choppy side with the short wheel base
Quarter turn on the adjustment screw should be fine. Glad it worked

Apparently the gel shocks gives a better driving quality. They are cabriel shocks.

Get oil shocks. Those gel shocks are very expensive.

Before I open a new topic...
I would like to replace me std rims on my niva... Does the Side kick rims fit on the std Niva? Is there any other that might be an option?
Thanks for all the info.

THANKS Yes Henrie the Sidekick rims were imported from Germany specifically for the NIVA. They will fit and the rim offset is correct Note that a spare wheel on a sidekick rim does not fit under the bonnet. I will post a link toe other options..... just need to find it. Watch this space Spikes

Here is the info on other options: Below is an excerpt from a post by Ventz. You can find the whole post in this Thread: Read more: locsa.proboards.com/index.cgi?boa....4#ixzz23jIJ0R5nSpikes Options for rims: 1. Old Suzuki Samuray. The rim fits, offset wrong. 2. Lada Sidekick mags - probably the best and easyest option. The offset is not perfect 100%, but acceptable. 3. The old KIA Sportage 15" steel rims - fits perfect; offset perfect - better than the Sidekicks. 4. Check the new Sportage alloy rims - could be with the same shape like old ones, it is logical but I can't be sure. 5. Daihatsu - I checked once upon a time a rim from Daihatsu Feroza, doesn't fit. May be some other models? 6. Suzuki Vitara - probably, I don't know. 7. Suzuki Jimny - looks perfect for Lada. I measured it with tape, everything seems OK, but never fit it on Lada to test it; there was no spare rim in the showroom in my town and I didn't want the salesman to strip the new car for my own test . If somebody of you have a chance to check it, it will be useful for all of us. 8. Traildusters with the right offset were available at the end of 1990's. Later the factory in Port Elizabeth (or in East London, I don't remember exactly) stop to produce them. We tryed to order some in Y2000 but they did not interested to make it again. If somebody has a chance to find some of them - OK. 9. There are some mags and traildusters in Tiger Wheel and Tyre which fit, but they are with so wrong offset - even the Lada fender peels pieces of the rubber when turning and the steering is real mission. Stay away of them. Ventz Read more: locsa.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=technical&action=display&thread=1301&page=2#ixzz24okefOrCSpikes
