I got a quote 4 years ago of about 600 for front only so will agree with Spikes on the 400/ corner as a base to work with.

Here is the info on other options: 7. Suzuki Jimny - looks perfect for Lada. I measured it with tape, everything seems OK, but never fit it on Lada to test it; there was no spare rim in the showroom in my town and I didn't want the salesman to strip the new car for my own test . If somebody of you have a chance to check it, it will be useful for all of us. The size is apparently: 205 70 R15

That sounds very reasonable Conrad, those shocks can be rebuilt. This will now be feasible with the present spares supply lines

There is a braai day in Gauteng somewhere, if we could ever decide on a venue, popular places seem to be a quary in Kempton Park, Hennops and somewhere in Harties @conrad when was that and if he has more I want all 4, in fact make it 8

Hi Steve
The beauty of the original NIVA shocks is that they can be rebuilt provided you have the 2 casings with mounting points and the piston rod.
Kits are available from Ladapower

Marius do you currently still have your standard shocks fitted? Charles I replaced my originals with Safari's some years ago. Unfortunately I chucked the originals about three years ago when we moved which was a bad move as it is possible to rebuild them as Spikes mentioned. Marius

Dear All Good day Replaced All 4 Shocks this morning with Gabriel (White) Safari's. The same as was fitted. The fitter said that the bolts at the rear are too thin for the shock as a tight fit. Need to to be replaced. Please did Anybody else had the same experience when the shocks was replaced that you also need to replace the bolts on the rear and what did you use. Will test the new shocks on some gravel/dirt road when I go house visits on the farms. Looking forward, car's been standing for more than a month. Lada rules. Only getting compliments about the ability of the Lada - also this morning from the Fitter at Kilotreads... ;D Which 15" Tyres do you use as replacement on the Niva Mags. Your comments is very much appreciated Kind regards Stephen

Hi Stephen
Do you mind telling us what you paid for the shocks?
What size is your rear mounting bolt? Mine are 12mm fine thread.
Tyres that fit best are 195/80 R15, in any brand you choose, or can find.
Ari

@ari I've paid R1 660.00 fitted @ Kilotreads Paarl. Got a quote for R1 610 @ Hi-Q Wellington, but I need to travel 30K's and wait about 2H. Not worthed. I think mine is also 12mm, maybe I should just ad a bush that fits in the shock rubber. They guy @ KT told me that they do not stock 15" 4X4 Tyres. He offered some passanger or bakkie Replacements - not such a good idea. I once read that Kumho's are good...
@ Spikes The Product Code: G56172 & G56102 This is per the Partslist.
Regards Stephen

Ari Thanks for the tyre info. thought the 205's too be a bit big. Will have a look @ TWT. There's a guy in Malmesbury who advertise Maxxis, will also give him a call I think the metal bush inside the shock's rubber is missing. Will have a look today aftern work.

Hi Stephen
The price on your Safaris are quite good and you shouldn't have a problem at the back as I have the same Safari's for years now - it fits perfectly. You should just check that the shocks don't touch anywhere near the brake lines.

Hi Marius and Everybody Else Thanks for the input We are so exited that the Lada can be properly repaired, it may still take a while; but We are getting there. Shocks fitted. Still have a problem with the "dancing sticks" and Dragglink & Idler arms (need to check the proper names) Darling Wild Flower Show coming up in about Two (2) weeks time.
