Hi Ruan
I never did much rock driving but I think .8 bar is very low. I am sure Ari will know what is best. In sand driving you also need to watch you do not go too low as the sand starts to build up between the rim and the bead and will eventually deflate the tyre.

Ronnie Ronnie, that depends very much on the tires. With Firestone SAT you can easy deflate till 0,5 bar Hi Ruan I never did much rock driving but I think .8 bar is very low. Ronnie. The lada is not so heavy at 1 bar the tyres still look hard.

Don't you need 2 gears to make the TC lower? one for the TC input shaft and one for its intermediat shaft? Where do you source the other gear?
2bar is way to high, I would run 0.8 - 1.2 depending on load that you carrying. Also remember he has front and rear difflock which you don't. Wouldn't an air locker be better than a torsen for the rear in loose rock etc esp as you are lifting a back wheel and if its in the air the torsen will not be working. The torsen needs some traction on each wheel.

A G Wagen is a great 4x4, but a stock standard Niva should be able to go anywhere a (standard) G Wagen can go and beyond. The ride will however be a BIT more bumpy in a Niva - esp when it comes to rocks.

Maruis i do not agree. A short wheel base G is a monster. Always always going up all the nasty places with no fuss or wheel spin. I hate them:)

Hi Jan
I did not use this Last Niva like I normally would but yes for off road work I always used tubes if the type of tyres allowed it.

Been running the Nankangs at 1.8 since I fitted them. Rarely more than two adults in the car. G-wagon is a step up from the NIVA with diff locks all round and quite a bit more expensive.

Hi Jan
It looks very similar to the Super All Grip which I used on the Landy and they would not fit tubes due to the rough finish on the inside of the tyres. Mind you in the bush it is easier to fix a tubeless tyre than a tubed one.

Shouldn't the tyre pressure be a little harder than usual when you do rock climbing? Running soft tyres on rocks will surely hurt the sidewalls?

Marius some people use low pressure as they say the tyre then moulds around the rocks. I prefer high pressure when doing rocks.

Harder tyres will give you less traction than softer tyres, and he had wheel spin I think so it should have counted that.
Hard and soft tyres can get damaged on loose rock, the tyres on the lada do not really bulge that much due to it being very light.

The Firestone SATs are 7.5 R16 so they are taller than std tyres Roons, I also dont think they are made anymore.

They are also 6.00 R16 (standard niva size) or 6.50 R16 (perfect for a lifted Niva). You are right Ari, they don't make them any more.
