Went to get some parts at lada centurion. Jans daily ride is a lada rwd. Got a spin in it and it has no problems getting away. It spins its 16' wheels and runs like a dream.

He sais it is his car for normal driving in town. Not shure if the speedo works as we just drove in his plot. It has no tc just a long drive shaft to the rear diff. If u have more than one lada why not? Save fuel and no tc front diff problems.

I almost bought a 2nd lada a while ago that would have received that treatment.

Charles. My 4x4 carb niva is my pride and joy. I am going to do the rwd thing to my 1.7i and see how it works. Jan also helped me with my loose piston problems.

Told me to spray a carbon cleaning spray in the cylinders every few mins for 3hours and to rotate the motor. The rings came loose and the pistons are 50% tighter now. I did not know the rings was stuck so his advice realy helped me. I cant wait to see how it wil run. Going away to hike fanie botah so i cant work on it next week.

Do you know whether Jan still restore Ladas to be sold ?
Hopefully he does, because in general Ladas seem to get stripped at an alarming rate in South Africa. To his credit, Jan did play a major role in putting quite a number of Ladas back on the road, by re-painting the cars as well. If it wasn't for the fact that the Ladas have been re painted, some might have been scrapped already.

Roons,
To the best of my knowledge bigger valves can not be fitted to a Niva head. All I did was I fitted stainless valves. I do not think there is enough meat on the Niva head for bigger valves. I also do not think you necessarily need bigger valves if you flow the head. Bigger valves in an engine should also not be considered lightly, because the chances that the valve may get burned is much higher (remember the bigger the valve in a hotter engine the more difficult to get the heat transferred to the cooler head, and you already took some of the meat off the head to put bigger valves in!
Quite a few things can be done to make valves flow better, but should be done by pro's. I suggest you speak to the guys from Steves Auto Clinic (no you do not spell it Jan in Centurion area, although they both share the "C"- be warned). In fact, Steves Auto Clinic has a dedicated factory in Meyerton area that specialises in the manufacture of valves, and has a good turnaround time. It is quite far from Centurion. Actually very far. Interestingly enough it is also cheaper. Much cheaper.
Regards,
Fanus

Great - it shows what can be done when owners do their own repairs !
During the past two or three weeks I became aware of two quotes by two different Suppliers - believe me, you have just saved yourself more than a small fortune !
