Hi All I have fitted the condenser today and even though it was easy to install the fans were another story and took most of the day due to less space than before. It was extremely difficult to fix them in place due to the fixings on the fans. You will see the condenser just behind the fans. Ronnie Attachments:

Thanks Ronnie - that gives me a good idea. It surely looks very solid and professional.
I wonder how many of these brackets have been made and how many Aircons have been installed in total ?
Regards
Danie

Hi Danie
The bracket has been nicely made and if my memory is correct the manufacturer is Crisp Air in Durban. Vanchester listed them in 1996 as an optional accessory at R5500. I notice the compressor has been changed since it was new as it now uses the latest gas.

Hi All Everything now installed and tested. Need to save up for all the missing parts. Did the electrical today and this was not without it`s trials and tribulations. There are 3 relay`s required. 1 to control the A/C via the ignition, 1 to switch the compressor in and out, and 1 to switch 1 of the existing fans on when the compressor is running. Now we all know that the 4 pin relay`s that all the manufacturers use all have the same connections, well I now know they don`t. I could not get the system to work and eventually found 1 faulty relay and the one with the different connections. This is the first time I have ever seen this. If you are unfortunate enough to buy one like this it will not work when you plug it in. Any way Al's well that ends well . I will do the drain for the evaporator tomorrow as I forgot about it. Hi Ari The A/C is fully installed as far as I can go. Unfortunatly a months pocket money is not enough . It will be finished next month . I need to organise 2 fan belts, 1 thermostat, 2 flexible hoses, and 2 solid pipes, one of which needs to be fitted with a gas refill point. Electrics finished and working. Will post details shortly. Hi All. I mentioned that I needed to install an electric petrol pump, as the mechanical one was in the way of the compressor bracket. I have tried to install the electric pump in such a way to also serve as an Anti Theft device. I have installed the pump behind the splash panel in the front left wheel arch, making it difficult for the thief to find. I have wired it through a relay which is only energized when you switch on the ignition, and also flick the rear fog light switch on and then off. If this is not done the pump will not work. The fog light SW has 2 sets of contacts, the unused set are normally closed and need to be changed to normally open. It is not difficult to alter the switch and anyone wanting to do this I will post the instructions. You could also just install a secret switch instead if you want. Ronnie Attachments:

Hi Ronnie
Please post instructions. Sounds very intresting. I know this is a little off topic but where would be the best place to install a thermo switch? I think on the bottom hose but some people tell be the top one is better.

I think you should be careful with that info Ronnie, now the crook knows exactly how to steal your lada.

Yes. I see my car has one infront of the radiator, but it isnt connected. I want to remove the mechanical fan and run the electric fan. Maybe even install a second one.

Ari
PS you already have an electric fan in front of your radiator.

Because the fan shroud is broken. I am still just considering it. Depends on how broken the shroud is. The thing I like about the mechanical fan is that it runs the whole time.

Hi Charles To modify the SW you need to remove the switch rocker first gently with a screwdriver to just clear the molded pins. Then again split the 2 parts of the body gently with a screwdriver. Then remove all the parts inside and take note of the position of the switch contacts which are being used for the fog lights. All you need to do now is press out the fixed contact and then press fix it into the spare slot at the other end. You will now have 2 sets of normally open contacts. If you find this difficult post the SW to me and I can alter it for you. If you look at the photo, all you are doing is moving the bottom right connector to the top right, and inside reversing 1 moving contact ;D. Ronnie Attachments:

Hi Charles The switch is marked 78 deg but the Lada guage shows it coming on at just over 90 and back off at just under 90. I have no mechanical fan fitted as I have no cowl, which means the fan would be very inefficient. Ronnie PS I am now going to watch Relic Hunter as I have already missed some

I read in the tread on cooling modifications that your egr is disconnected. Where is the vacuum pipes connected now? The two that goes to the egr valve. On my lada there is no pipes on them and the pipes on the egr vacuum thermo switch is just connected to each other. I know on the Nissan bakkies we dissconect the egr valve. What is the disadvantage/advantage when disconnecting it on the Lada?
Charles
P.s Hope you enjoy Relic Hunter. Im not in a hurry for a answer.

Hi Charles I have stripped out all the egr components and the following photo will show you the vacuum to the distributor the 2 blanked off connections and the way I fitted the thermo sw into the old body of the vacuum control for the egr system. Fortunately I had a tap to suit the thread of the thermo sw. Ronnie Attachments:

Thank you Ronnie. I think I am going to remove my egr system aswell. On the carb there is a pring that connects to the choke link on the carb. Where should the other end of the spring connect? Mine was bable tied to one of the clips on the airfilter housing.
