Hi Nikki
Sorry to see you have had to sell your Niva. As Spikes says you can still stay with LOCSA. I also don`t now have a Niva so you are not alone.

Hi Nikki
I am sad to hear that you sold your Niva, but I understand how you feel. Sometime it gets a bit much trying to get a neglected car back in perfect shape.
Please keep us updated on the car and remember to intruduce your neighbor to LOCSA.
Regards
Charles

Hi Guys Thank you for the words of comfort – I really appreciate it and I will keep in touch on the forum. The latest news on Nikita is that Hans, the new owner, has had a look at the chain and found that the vibration damper was broken in half and the top piece came away in his hand. Presumably this was the area of the ‘loose nut’ that the radiator guy and his friend referred to but they just pointed to the wrong area on my drawing. Hans seemed a bit puzzled that all the slack was on the damper side of the chain – something I mentioned previously but no-one commented as to whether this was unusual. He also said that the engine was very difficult to turn making him suspect ceased bearings / bent valves. He plans to investigate further at the weekend and promised to keep me informed. I’ve already provided the forum link and told him all about LOCSA and I’m sure he’ll be along as soon as he’s finished wading through the pile of Lada documentation I’ve given him. Although he’s not familiar with the Lada, rebuilding cars is his hobby so he will quickly learn. I’ve also introduced him to Pavel’s website and provided details of all the local parts suppliers as well so he’s off to a good Lada start. NIKKI

Hi Guys The news regarding the lovely Nikita is that she’s fine and Hans, the new owner, is an extremely lucky guy! It turned out that despite all the trauma she was subjected to the only damage was the broken vibration damper I referred to earlier. When he told me I was quite devastated as I was expecting the worst which would have actually made me feel much better! ;D Unfortunately, it would appear that I made the wrong decision but all the talk about taking the head off, and then removing the engine, made me suspect some serious damage. Anyway, it’s ‘water under the bridge’ now and I will just have to live with it. Hans also fitted the new thermostat, which I feel sure contributed to Nikita’s woes (and didn’t even work according to the radiator guy) and after years of running hot she is now apparently running normally. Prior to the engine 'noise' problem the radiator guy had her idling at 120 deg and this was another reason for my decision. I figured that if the engine wasn’t already buggered it soon would be with the ongoing overheating! I tried so hard to get to the bottom of this problem over the years, and despite having every conceivable cause checked out, never managed to get it right! Anyway, owning Nikita for the past six years was the most incredible experience and I enjoyed every single minute! Although I may not know much about the Lada Niva now, I know a lot more than when I started out and I would like to thank all the incredible Lada owners out there for all the amazing assistance during this period. Nikita seems to be in good hands now and no doubt you will learn more about her progress when her new owner gets around to joining the forum. Thank you all again. NIKKI

Nikki this is a sad story! To bad the numskull radiator guy scared u into selling your niva. But i almost want to say that if u cant work on the niva yourself or have a good mac that wont rip u off (nearby) it stil makes sence what u have done. At a stage u would have had to do it anyway. Try not to be to sad. Regards Ruan

Hi Jan.
The chain is stretched a bit. It still tensions good with lots left on the tensioner. I will look at replacing the chain sometime in the future.
