Thanks Ari... I would highly appreciate it Steve! If at all possible when and where ever..? I think I should get service kit and ask hubby to service it for me, and if still so heavy on fuel make a plan to get to you? Service kit I can get at Midas right? I think I have a list of what we can use instead of geniun Lada parts..
Tx,
Adri

Yes you can get all the service items from Midas or Autozone
I'm going to move the service discussions out of "for sale"

If the filter is blocked it will worsen your fuel consumption. Ari

Hi Adri
Please check your PM for a conversion formula to correct for the tyre factor in your fuel consumption.
Thanks to Ari for the calculations!

Hi Guys, I recently bought another Lada (no.4)!!!!,
problem is that the car was stuck in neutral. I found that the clutch master was not activating. After a few days, got the master and slave working, re-leaser arm is moving, but the gear stick is not activating. How far should the re-leaser arm move before she can engage gear?..
Any advice please? I'm in amanzimtoti,
Thanks guys

Hi brad,
Can you select gears when the engine is not running? If not, then the problem will be with the gearbox, and not the clutch

Hi guys
Your assistance please.
My little Lada's been standing for over a month now and I'm pulling my hair out.
It's got irregular ideling. Sometimes it battles to start without the choke out a little bit and unable to idle with the choke completely closed. I've removed the carb and clesned it from top to bottom, all valve open and clean but no help. When pressing the accelerator it picks up revs nicely until throttle have way open, it then makes a sucking sound and stalls?
Please please please help!!!

Hi Boosman
The first thing that comes to mind is that the wire connected to the electromagnetic valve could have been disconnected accidentally. The valve itself can also be either faulty or loose, but don't overtighten it. Also check the bolts on each corner for tightness.

Hi Marius
Thanks for the reply
Will that be the solinoid connected to the carb? Replacing it with new wiring was one of the first things I did, but didn't make a difference?

Yes that is it. You can also try and start the car with No2 and No3 plug wires swopped. Rev the car for a few seconds. Your fuel pump could also be faulty?

Also replaced the pump with a new unit.
Swapping the plug wires? Please forgive my ignorance, but what will that tell me?

Sorry should have elaborated. Switch the wires temporarily and start the car. Rev hard for a few seconds. It will sound like a terrible misfire but that will blow a lot of dirt out of the system and might just solve your issue. Return the wires as previously. However apart from dirt it sounds like you are getting too much air into the carb or it could even be a broken float?
I actually forgot to ask - is it a Solex carb?

Yeah it's the Solex carb. When I stripped and cleaned the carb I was very delicate with the floats, don't think that's the problem. Like I mentioned it idles quite fine with the choke open just a tad but as soon as the accelerator get opened half way you can hear a sucking sound and revs drops until you release the accelerator and returns to idle.

Give the crossed plug wires a bash and see what happens. Hopefully someone else might have a few more ideas to solve the problem for you Marius

This points to a problem with the second choke opening up. As far as I know the second barrel opens by vacuum suction and not mechanically?

I have no idea why it stalls when you rev it, but the fact that it will only idle with the choke on means its lean. Have you tested the solenoid has power and that it clicks when it has power?
If you adjust the idle mixture does it make any difference? Also is the cover for the idle mixture screw still there, as I know this caused problems for vincent.
It could also be an air leak. Try spay some wd40 round the base of the carb while its running and see if this idle picks up.
If none of those work then I'm out of suggestions

Hi boosman. I had the exact same problem with CERATOTH. It seems that a very small bit of sh*t had managed to get past the fuel filter (or may have been a small piece from inside the fuel pipe itself) and this was blocking the idle jet. You could not see it and even though I had cleaned out the carb it was still stuck in there. It was only after I had cleaned out the jet with the compressor airline that the problem was solved. Hope that this helps, good luck and best wishes to all at LOCSA. Keith and CERATOTH

My guess is that your secondary barrel atomiser is in the wrong way and now your secondary barrel cannot suck fuel
