Hi all,
Today had central locking fitted.. When I got home I realised that my right indicator wasn't working. The light on the dashboard nor the indicators light up, nothing.
Then about 15 minutes later I tried again and the left one stopped working.
Could this have been something that the central locking guys did or something completely unrelated?
Thanks,
D

You need to check all the fuses and also the indictor flasher relay which is aatached to the bulkhead under the dash its quite big black box..
Cheers Gav

Hi Damian
In all likelihood, yes.
The installers will in most if not all cases link the alarm to the indicators to provide a visual alarm as well.
Take the NIVA back the installers let them fix it.

Thanks guys, I am going to take it back first thing in the morning. It must be that they didn't do it correctly, as I just see now that the lights aren't working either. :/

Sounds like the wires form the indicator and the bright/dim levers got caught up in the steering column

Hi Damian. When 'my wires' got stuck in the steering column I got smoke and sparks ! It sounds as though your central locking guys might have got something wrong ! Good luck.....Niva electrics can be a real pig at times. That's why I take CERATOTH for a bath once a year....just to clear everything out ! Best Wishes and Regards, Keith and CERATOTH.

Hi Keith,
I hope it is the central locking guys that got it wrong.. and that it will hopefully be a simple fix. Either that or I will be working from their waiting room tomorrow. lol

They fixed the indicators. But now the radio, fuel gauge, petrol gauge, rev counter, dash lights don't work. And the battery is flat.

Yes, I have checked the manual.
Fuse no 8 powers the instrument panel lights

Thank you Spikes..
Please excuse my noviceness.. Where would I locate this fuse? I assume not under the dash on passengers' side as that only has 6 fuses. I am looking through the manual but I'm still working my way through it.
Cheers,
D

I would take it back again. Just first check all the fuses first.

Yeah, I will take it back in the morning. I did chat to them about it and they were of the opinion that it needs to be taken to an auto electrician. I am of the opinion that they should pay for said auto electrician.. But then again I am guessing that they won't agree to this.
Will post any updates.

I had a similiar issue with the Dash dying and I replaced fuses 8 and I think 2 and it came right after that. Visually there was nothing wrong with the fuses I took out, but it solved my problem.

check the earth point behind under the dash, it seems as if it tends to come loose and everything is earthed to it i had a similar experience (headlights, indicators, heater fan all packed up simultaneously) directly behind the heater controls

Maybe the lugs where the wires enter the instrument cluster are loose?

Hi Damian. Sorry to hear of you continuing electrical woes :-( Just a thought .....is the multiplug which goes into the back of the dashboard firmly in place ? Mine had one of the plastic lugs broken off and this kept giving intermittent dials failure. Fixed it with a dab of superglue and no problems (touch wood) since. Good Luck and regards, Keith and CERATOTH

Hi all,
Thank you for all the advice! I am going to give it a bash now.. If I don't come right it's going to an auto-electric first thing in the morning.
Cheers,

Probably going a bit off topic.. But it really is such a fun car to drive. Yes the steering is heavy, it is slow (If I get to 110 on a down hill it's an accomplishment) but.. That kind of adds to the Lada experience. The vibrations in the seat when hitting 100 are almost like a massage, the squeeks and small rattles are somewhat soothing, the smell 'faint' smell of petrol.. It all adds to it. It has only been a week but am loving this car so far. D
