Hi Spikes
The after market boot fits the inner and outer CV, there is no problem with the fit.

Hi Spikes In his defense I did ask about the original boot and he had none in stock BUT he sold me another one similar to the one on the left (not exactly the same) with the promise that it would work - and it did. Regards Marius

Hi Marius, Seems like your dealings with Jan was happier than most others. Yes, what he did in your case is acceptable business practice. Regards Spikes

Hi Spikes When Jan started his business everyone was very happy that we got another supplier and service provider. CMH/Lada SA quickly became horendously expensive with replacement parts and their service was nothing short of pathetic. Back then the original water pump was sold for R1500. I got mine from Jan for R1000 - still expensive though but a bit better than CMH. My experience with CMH/The Car Shop was not a good one so I turned to Jan for support and spares. Many other LOCSA members did exactly that and quickly Jan became very much in demand. Things changed for the worse as soon as Lada SA closed their doors and his business and manners became more like what you guys are used to. His support mostly ended up in rude remarks and his spares unafordable. The last straw for me was when he refused to sell a new syncro to me and his "lockwasher" that failed after 1000kms. For me it is a real shame The good thing is I discovered that it is MUCH cheaper to import your own parts Marius

Hi Steve
The clutch resivoir cap is the same thread as one of the kids cold drink bottles. If you buy a newbonnet catch cable you can make a new one to fit ,it is a bit fiddley but I made mine.

Hi Steve
I have managed to find a picture of the cold drink bottle. If you use the cap drill a tiny hole in the top to let air in.

Hi Stephen If I understand you correctly, you are battling to have new keys made? I walked into our local locksmith and he made both up in less than 5 minutes!!!! I think the problem might be that there are very few old style, qualified Smiths around nowadays. Our crowd are Olympic Locksmiths and have a branch in Fish Hoek and Claremont. They have been around for about 80years if I'm not mistaken. Cost the same as any other car key, cheap.. cheap. Hope this helps. Regards Des p.s. Sorry, I don't know of a decent locksmith in PE, Charles. Oh, ja. Will be in your neck of the woods, for the Gray-Paul Roos game.

Hi Marius Thanks for the update on Jan and Centurion Lada. I must say I found a lot of the data on their website worthwhile reading to prep me when I started searching for our NIVA. Regards Spikes PS to Ronnie The aftermarket CV boots that I pulled off the shaft were appreciably thinner than the boots that I got from Ventz. Don't know how long they have been on the car. regards s

Hi All
While looking through the Elchin / PJ catalog today I see the Niva thermostat part no 6961 is listed. Unfortunately as it was the start of the long weekend I could not find out if they are available. Charles, when you go back to work will you please find out for us?

Vincent and I were at Chris Swales today, as he needed a ball joint. Interestingly, the new one was made by Quinton Hazel a very large original equipment and after market supplier. I tried to access their catalog on line but it was too complicated for me. Perhaps some one can check as they make a very large no of car parts.

Hi Ronnie Had a quick look at the online (UK) catalog. QH makes water pumps and U-joints for the NIVA both 1.6 and 1.7. So it will be worthwhile looking for local QH stockists regards all Spikes

This is very good news indeed - and I hope that we will be able to source these parts locally.

I needed a few parts urgently so that Ruski can have work done over the long weekend.
Ventz gave me pricing and it was fair. He also had the items in stock.
I ended up buying the spares from Chris Swales - I was going up to PineTown and wanted the items before Ventz would be back.
Thus far all items I needed I have been able to source locally. Perhaps not as cheaply as I could have purchased from the UK, but I could have them in a few hours.
Regards Vincent

Just another point - If we constantly AVOID buying from the local stockists, we will make it very difficult for any of them to continue stocking the spares we will need in the future.
As Ruski will be a daily driver - I cannot afford to have her standing as a result of spares unavailability locally.
If it is here - I have the choice to accept the offered price or to purchase ex UK or EU.
Perhaps Mike and Ventz should look at haveing service exchange units like the G/B TC propshafts and diffs ready for sale to Lada owners. They can decide beyween them what they have and build up 1 of each. As both are actively involved with Lada's they could make their own life easier.
Or is this just be being overly optomistic?
Regards Vincent

Hi Vincent
Measure the size of the balljoint shaft. At the bottom and top of the taper. Just need those two measurements.
Thank you

I have seen those on new built Nivas but I do like the ones that they used on the Intermediates a bit more.
Ari has been very quiet - probably still on holiday somewhere?
