If you had R40 000 to buy a car, what would you buy and why? Not a Niva...

Looking at vehicles in that price range the best quality is usually a toyota... I would go for a toyota... Parts will still be reasonable and the vehicle should still be quite trustworthy. Unless your a recently qualified Mechanic who knows what you are doing. . . Then any car should do

Good day
I'd go for: Golf GTI MKII Motorcar; or Opel Corsa / Ford Batam Bakkie - Wife now driving her second Opel Bakkie 1.7Dti. Service bit expensive @ Dealers. I sometimes drive the Opel and it's performance and fuel comsumption is good.
Many still available - Parts No major issue to repair - Many machs around (even Backyard - Garage Machs working from home after-hours/week-ends) Easy to pimp
Why I did not bought one: Needed inexpensive 4X4 for Evangelistic work on Farms in/around Paarl. Previous car was a SIII Landy. Niva is an upgrade on the Landy.

Hmm......
A Last model ford escort 1.8TD.
1100km on a tank and it could get to 200km/h on the highway when needed to.
