Hi all.
Just noticed I have never introduced my self. Need to put this down to old age. I retired last year to pennington on the south coast after working as an electrician including my apprenticeship for nearly 50 years. I have lived in South Africa since 1974. I have a 2000 Lada and a 2005 Peugeot 206 1.6 xt. I am 66 years old.
Regards Ronnie.

Enjoy your retirement Ronnie ! I guess one advantage of being retired is that one do have more time to enjoy a Lada !
If I may ask, where did you find yourself before you moved to South Africa?
Regards
Danie

Hi Danie and all,

Never went back to scotland. 3 of the kids plus 1 born here now live in the UK .One daughter still here in Jhb. Had my own electrical contracting co for many years that was how we could afford to roam the bush so much. Cant do it now.

Ronnie, sadly my own family has been torn apart (sort of) as well.
My oldest son find himself in the US for the past 10 years, and got married to a US girl during August - will never come back to SA again.
My youngest son and his fiancee will get married during June this year - both have got good qualifications, and are also thinking of leaving the country..........
Fortunately my daughter and her husband are not thinking of leaving the country. Their two little children bring great joy to our lives.
Yesterday when I spoke to my son in the US (Iowa), the temperature over there was minus 30 Deg Celsius............not for me ,thanks.
As far as myself is concerned - I will stay here until I finally bite the dust.........
Regards
Danie

Hi Dannie,
Yes it is sad when family`s are split up. but I must always remember I started it. My daughter here will not leave either. This country has been good to me,I have enjoyed living here. I also like the warm weather, and hate the cold. After saying that the nights in the bush in winter in Botswana can be bitter cold. WE took hot water bottles with us !!!!.
Regards
Ronnie.

Hi all, thanks all for a great welcome. I have started working on my Lada and have stripped the whole front end suspension. The only work that I can see that needs doing, is, My front left wheel bearing is shot. I noticed that the rubber bush on the stabaliser bar was missing, which in turn threw the whole front left side out. How readily available are bearings, can I get in Cape Town. Mike very Kindly offered his details, so I will contact him during today to pick his brain and hopefully get some spares. Thanks again for you dedication! Paul

Hi Paul Unfortunately there are no replacement / aftermarket front wheel bearings available in South Africa, but you could contact Centurion Lada , or Chris Swales Motors (Pinetown) in this regard - they should carry stock of original Russian bearings. Another option is to import bearings and a rubber bush directly from Russia. Contact details can be found here: locsa.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=technical&action=display&thread=12If you decide to get parts from Russia, perhaps you should also consider parts on this list, to save future transport costs: locsa.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=technical&action=display&thread=54Please let us know if you need any further information - and keep us posted about the progress on your Lada. Regards Danie
