Some history of my engine: I got my lada in mid 2007 but the engine was running with much noise. It had been rebuilt previously and both the block and cylinder head were skimmed. Since mid 2007: 2008: I pulled the cylinder head and found the piston markings engraved in the cylinder head. I replaced the pistons and rings, had the pistons skimmed by 1,5mm so that they are now flush with the block and reassembled the engine. I did not have the resources to work on the bottom of the engine. She ran well from 2008 to 2012 about 10 000km. I replaced the front and rear crank seal to get her through roadworthy and on my name in mid 2012. Late 2012: In late 2012 I stripped my lada completely and repaired / refurbished most things (excl engine). This I completed in mid 2013, thus my engine sat in the garage for about 5 months. Since then every time I drive there is an oil leak from the front crank seal and my crak pully has a wobble. I also used 4L of oil to drive 240km when I moved to PE. I am now stripping it to see if the crank and conrods are bent as well as to repair anything else amiss. Air filter box and radiator + expansion tank removed. Right view of engine bay Left view of engine bay Tappet cover removed Cam sprocket lockwasher Cam sprocket removed Cam shft and housing removed to get access to the cylinder head bolts Showing the tappets and valve springs Cylinder head removed Starter removed (I dont understand why you guys bitch so much about removing it, its a piece of cake ) Pictures of an engine frame I am making to hold the engine while I work on it. She's going to be better than new when you're done. I wish I had a garage with as much space as you, it looks huge

I usually use long nose pliers. If you have a spare and some valve spring locks, welding them to the tips makes a great tool.
