LadaNiva Good morning.
Thank you so much for the comment. I'm pleased with the car, though there's some cosmetic issues. I've learned to live with it. I would love to repair/replace the seats in due course - not in a hurry. It looks like the original colour, because there's some stone chipmarks and bit of rust underneat the windows which needs to be fixed rather earlier than later.
Regards Steve

Nice Vincent
I really like the tyres and roofrack. Do you think you will be able to send me some pics of the roof rack, would love to model the one I want to make on that one.
Cheers Riaan

Ari I always admire the Lada's. The Tyres you are using looks amazing and I'm sure very purpose driven. I'll also fit tyres after the repairs is done. Thought about AT's but the MT's on your car will be considered. The brand you are using, please.
My Wife gave permission that I can repair our Lada as I've been driving it this long. Her valid arguement is that I waste money trying to repair a car and sell it afterwards like I did with a SIII Landy and a SFA Toy. I promised that this is not the Wastage Case this time. I'll do my utmost to fix everything - thought I considered to sell the Lada a few times. I drove the Lada irespective of the noise & grunts and it only let me down once with the Alty/Battery problem.
Trying to get leave from next Wednesday, 11/06/2012 to fix with whatever parts I can get.
Enjoy the Weekend ahead, Cold and Wet (CAW) in Paarl.
Regards Steve

The tyres I run require a 50mm lift and arch cutting as they are 245/75 R15 Remoulds made in Uitenhage by Safari Tyres. Brand used to be Pitbull but now is Bulldog.

So my customer (the guy in the white Nissan) asks me is that a real 4X4, on the way to the site he gets stuck in mud twice, In sand once and has to get out while in the mud to engage the front difflock. He could not even pull out of the sand he is standing in (in the pic). The Niva never even used low range and I had three guys in the car. I going to send him a email and demand an apology, (after he pays my invoice). Attachments:

Nice Wayne Yes, rather wait for the invoice to be paid, then you can suggest that next time he rides with you. See what a proper 4x4 looks like. Regards Vincent

@ Charles
I have finally found a way to mix all of my trades (though I am a master of none together). I do a bit of mechanical and electric eng mixed with some computer programming and then I put it all together with some on site rope access work. I currently work in the renewable energy sector, I focus on wind energy as I can use my rope access experience there. The job I was doing in the pic's was to setup mic's to record the different bat species at the proposed sites, our client is doing an enviromental impact study on the affect of wind turbines on the local bat population.

Nice. We are getting two wind farms close to JBay. One in van Staadens and the other one next year just outside Humansdorp.

Hi Charles I'm not too sure how green wind farms are as the amount of concrete that goes into their foundations is astronomical. The one near Colchester outside PE has about 600 cubic meters of concrete for the footing of 1 turbine. And at about 7 pockets of cement per cubic meter of concrete that is 4200 bags of cement, which is 210 000kg or 210 tonnes of cement. To make the cement PPC burn tyres and coal etc and make 1 ton of carbon dioxide (as a byproduct) for every ton of cement. That means about 210 tonnes of CO2 have been produced per wind turbine. That is one hell of a backlog for it to catch up before it becomes green. Just my 2 cents worth. Ari

Hi Ari
@ari I have to agree with you the constuction of wind farms are not at all green, @ Charles yes we have a few measurement sites up in JBay and our customers are waiting for finacial close so activities should start soon. @ari I think I saw a post which says you live in Adelaide? If so I think within the next 5 years there should be at least 5 X 100MW farms on your doorstep (we have 9 measuring sites in your are) as the Cookhouse area is to be the Mecca for Windfarm development. On the brightside if things go well we will be looking for a base in Adedlaide and you can be sure there will be at least one Niva to be used as a access vechile.

Hi Wayne
I do live in Adelaide currently but will only be here till our projects are finished. Then I will be moving again.
But come visit when you do inspections at your measuring sites.

Hi Ari
Was there last week, might only be out that way at the end of the year. Adelaide has definatley been one of our better towns we have visited. I think one of the first projects might break ground in the next couple of months, but there are some logistical issues, such as access roads and like you mentioned the availability of concrete as the projects will such them dry.
So you heard it here first if you want a good investment, PPC is the way to go, 30X100MW projects, each project about 30 turbines. PPC will not be able to meet there exisitng demands and this need.

Hi Wayne
Here in the UK there are 1000`s of wind farms. I can see 2 windmills from the back bedroom and a total of 13 from the village. You will not drive far without seeing them. They are now starting on off shore wind farms.

Hi Ari
I agree with you that it is not green, and its the same story with everything they market as "green".
