Hi everyone
It takes a lot of time and energy to keep the web site up to date. As you are all aware of, the web site was deleted a while ago (with the forum). I managed to get most of it back except for the photos. To establish another photo gallery, will take a lot of time, energy and bandwidth.
At the moment I have neither of these. I would rather create a photo and news section on the forum. Then it would be a collective effort rather than that of one individual.
99% of the traffic goes directly to the forum anyway so the web site did not have that many visits.
I trust that you will understand.
Regards
Kobus

Hi Kobus Question please! Would you also create a link on the forum for the "old technical section" of the website? thanks for your efforts in restoring the forum. Spikes

Hi Kobus
I for one knows that maintaining a website can be quite time consuming - not to mention the actual design. However I would hate to see the website disappear as you have put a lot of effort into it. My vote will therefor go against the removal of the website, but I will naturally support the majority decision in this regard.

Kobus, I voted "yes" on what you have said. It is a pity that so much work is gone, but I understand it will be a lot more work to get it going again. The new "sections" on the forum makes more sense to me (like photo's) and we now have it all in one rather than split up.
In any case, t'nx for all this effort mate. ;D

Hi Kobus
I am like Marius on this one and would like to see the website continue. Perhaps this could be passed on to someone else to do. I am sure there are others on the forum who are capable when you are so busy. Marius has very little to do ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I think adding the news and photo boards on the forum will be a great idea. I hounstly think that the website does not really get any attention.

When we started off with the first website there was no forum. Since the moment I introduced the forum the traffic to the website fell through the floor. Most of the people on the forum has never seen the website. The forum is what keeps everything going. The website only changes when updated but the forum is dynamic.

Kobus, Good morning. Thanks for your time and service to Lada Owners. Very much appreciated. If it was not for the Forum, I would have given up on the Lada. Please keep the Forum going.
Kind regards Stephen

Interesting discussion.
Perhaps the web and forum admin is a function that should rightly be done by the LOCSA management structure. That way it can be maintained and updated as part of their daily Lada interactions.
Regards Vincent
PS I vote to keep both

Some real stats for the period 01/08/2011 - 19/09/2011:
This forum had 27 714 impressions, the website's news page 201 impressions. Since yesterday the forum had 1 914 impressions and the website's news page a mere 15.
The website's news page links directly to the banner at the top of the forum that says: LOCSA website!
You do the maths!

speaking from my own experience about my own website new visitors googeling 'niva' almost ALWAYS visit the site first and then move on to our forum. I think that without the mother site our forum would be less successful

Yes.... Some bum bandit registered it while my IT guy was getting his data lost and then found and then lost again . . . Sounds rather like the LOCSA forum lada-niva points to the current site.

Hi Kobus, I agree with Ladanivabelgium; if you do not have a website many internet surfers will not pick up that there is a forum. I for one discovered the LOCSA Forum, (which I really appreciate), via the website. I directed a Lada owner today to Ventz for a timing chain- I have seen him driving in Springs for +- two years and he did not know where to get a timing chain - he thought Jan closed down! Advertising (or making it easy to be found is important). (Not to worry Ventz; I do not charge commission, just please let me know what the wheel offset of a standard Lada rim is in mili meters - it is not on the Locsa forum – for a fact by a pro- as you thought! ) I suggest that the duties to maintain the website is shared by the willing, and especially the younger generation - they are very computer savvy and technology tuned-in. Owning and maintaining a Lada is labour of love and so will the website be. No pain no gain. Learning how to maintain a website can only be beneficial in the current world. It was for years and still is my everyday job to teach people to work on computers (software and ERP systems), and found that older people with no knowledge of computers (read software) learn it as easy as the younger users - as long as they see it as a benefit. Surely it is a benefit to keep our Lada’s running for years to come (come on guys you are writing history here; do not get lame now). ;D I for one am so proud to own a legend, and own it all by myself. I cannot imagine myself driving a Landcruiser two-lanes-wide- triple- miljoen model (or a Julius Malema Range finder or something) while knowing the bank manager owns more of it as I do. Wow, ek het my trots man. Do not count out the wifes or woman of the Lada drivers to help with the website (Agter elke Lada aankoop is 'n vrou - ask Ronnie! Regards, Fanus

Fanus To this day I fail to understand why the local Lada "Suppliers" are not interested in advertising there existence and services to the public out there. And to be honest - I was quite surprised / shocked when one of the local Suppliers once told me that "everyone" knows about him ! Mike is obviously on the right track - he clearly do understand the market value of advertising ... Danie

Hi Fanus I agree completely with you. If Kobus does not have time, it would be a good idea to pass the work of the web site to the likes of Marius who I am sure would be completely capable. Even the older members (like me) can learn if you put your mind to it. I had my own business and had 3 full time Secretaries, so all the work on the computers was left to them ;D. LOCSA was the reason for me learning how to switch a computer on . And now if all else fails I just call Freda . Ronnie

Marius and team I am willing to help out with the Website in any way. I must agree with Jan(Belgium) and Fanus that having a Website will improve the LOCSA exposure on the WWW regards Spikes
