Hi all Maybe some of you have noticed that I am quiet at the moment and have not posted any new comments on the forum. But I am on the forum quite frequently just to have a quick scan of what is going on. But the guys on BBM chat will tell you that I'm actually not keeping my mouth shut over there and I probably irritate them with my constant incompetent questions. Hi Darius To my mind it could be very helpful to new members and visitors of the Locsa website, if all so called "stupid" questions get asked at this Forum, and not via the BBM group , or Facebook. (By the way - to my mind a "stupid" question simply do not exist.) Many new visitors might be completely unaware of the above mentioned groups - or might not able, or interested in joining the above mentioned groups. So I think there is a good possibility that very helpful advice which get passed on between members of those groups , will never reach anyone who might be in need of those information. There is no guarantee that anyone of us will be able or willing to keep on sharing advice for many years to come - therefore I believe as many info possible should be shared at the LOCSA forum only. The initiation of a separate communication group was part of the reason why the original LOCSA has collapsed - therefore I am definitely not in favor of any communication group, other than the LOCSA website. Anyway , I guess I am "barking up the wrong tree " now - hopefully all BBM Group and Facebook members will be just as eager to share their knowledge at this Forum, and to keep this Forum alive. Regards Danie

Hi Danie
I don`t always agree with you, but this time I fully agree with what you are saying. Valuable information can be missed by many members. I do not and will not have a Blackberry, so also miss out on this. I have members asking me questions occasionally in a PM which I answer and then post my reply on the Forum as well so every one can get involved in the discussion.

I am not a huge fan of social networks and I do agree with Danie - in that ALL important issues (esp technical) should be shared on the forum.
Other than that - you can go bananas on these networks if you wish ;D
I have nothing against these networks though and they do play an ever increasing role in communication.
The forum is a vital instrument in keeping LOCSA and the Niva alive in SA.

Guys do not worry. Most of the time we are talking rubbish on BBM or chat some chatter. If something comes up in one of our chats that might be intresing I will post it on LOCSA.

Last night I told the guys That I would love to build a racing Niva someday.
Would love to fit a rotary engine in it. Lada did it in the past. They ran a 140bhp Naturally aspirated engine. Some production Ladas came out with it but not the Niva.
The Lada rotary engine was a copy of the Mazda 13A. (the 13B is the turbo one).
I would like to fit a 13B. Imagine a Niva screaming at 10500rpm and reving like a bike.

This is all the mechanical parts of a rotary engine!

Rotary engine cycle. A 13B is a twin rotor engine. Its only a 1300cc, but on a rotary the displacement increases with the revs. At 7000rpm it is a 6200cc!

Hi All
I always speak my mind and what Danie and Marius have said is very relevant. I personally do not think parts of a club / forum should be unavailable to any members. This forum has survived and grown over the past few years due to the fact all members were able to take part in all discussions, if they wished. Thanks Charles for your help in relaying any important posts on the BBM to the forum, however that still leaves (me ?) wondering what I may have missed. I think anything to do with LOCSA should be open to all at all times.

Ronnie we try and keep the lada related stuff on the forum. For the exact reason mentioned above.

I wonder why the rotary engine has not really took off - i.e. replaced the piston driven engine? Such a good design with power on demand. I would seriously consider one if that day comes.

Marius simple reason they like fuel more than you like a petrol pump. They want high boost and lots of revs.

Hi all I am "test driving" a BlackBerry and got myself invited to the BBM group. My impression on day 2, is really that LOCSA will not loose due to the existence of the BBM group. Lot of bantering and easy one on one chats about lots of unrelated stuff. It surely has its plus points. For one, you CAN share a dune conquered there and then

On the Rotary engine... those Mazda's made the most glorious sound around Aldo Scibante. But as Charles said, they were heavy on fuel compared to a 1600 Alfa engine

The Rotary engines are still available locally - two of the local engine suppliers (SUMP and EAS) has placed ads for the Mazda 13B Turbo engines in the latest (July edition) of the Speed and Sound magazine. I have also seen two 4 x 4 vehicles with 13B Turbo engines which took part in the National 4 x 4 event at Cato Ridge during May this year: Those two 4 x 4's are very powerful, and are capable of putting any competitor to shame. Danie and those engines are fairly cheap and can even run with a carb. And that noise. Oh that noise!

I am, as all may know a daily visitor and contributor to LOCSA.
My addiction to Niva's needs regular fixes and the BBM group means that I (and any other BB user) can communicate easily and frequently.
As spikes has said, the chatter on the BBM chat is often not suitable for the LOCSA forum.
I personally direct every Niva owner I know to the LOCSA forum as the wealth of knowledge available there is incredible. I also post my Lada's milestones on the Living Lada Niva LOCSA thread as I want to ensure that LOCSA remains a constantly evolving forum.
Regards Vincent.
PS my wife regularly hides my BB as she gets zigged off with my "constant fondling of my BB"

Attention Marius Shape is the guide - the flatter persimmons are the sweet ones while the heart-shaped original fruit are more astringent when not fully ripe. [glow=red,2,300] Persimmon and Snapper Salad With Lemon Lime Dressing[/glow] 1 fillet of snapper (or other white fish) olive oil spray salt and pepper 1 cucumber 2 sweet persimmons 1/2 cup of coriander Dressing1 lime (or lemon), juice and zest 1 tbs of chopped chives 20ml extra virgin olive oil Remove skin from fish and cut into small pieces. Season with salt and pepper. Grease pan with olive oil spray. Add fish to warm pan and cook over medium heat. Cook on one side for a couple of minutes or until cooked through, and then gently turn over and cook other side. Set aside to cool. Peel and deseed the cucumber and cut into chunks. Slice the persimmons into half centimetre thick slices. Place in a bowl and set aside. For the dressing, zest and juice the lime and place in a bowl then add the olive oil and mix well with a whisk. Finish with the chopped chives. To serve, toss fish, persimmon and cucumber in dressing. This is a wondefully fresh and summery salad and goes well with chilled white wine and fresh crusty bread. Enjoy
