I joined the site yesterday and started in earnest looking for my first Lada. However after reading through the forum about replacement parts....maybe I should reconsider...

Hi Hannes Warm welcome to the forum Most active members on this forum would try to persuade you to change your mind - simply because we are Lada fanatics! ;D Our local dealers and suppliers are in many cases making huge profits on replacement parts and IMHO unjustly so. Having said that you will find it to be true in most cases with dealerships throughout the industry. The good news is that you can import these parts for a song from either Russia/EU or the UK and the waiting period is not that long either. Basic service parts like filters and plugs is not an issue and you will find that if you do the servicing yourself the car is VERY economical and easy to maintain. Regards Marius

Hi Hannes
Welcome to the forum. Marius has covered the spares situation, so you should have no worries about buying a Niva. Every day service service parts are available at the local spares shops, and if you do your own servicing you will save a fortune.

Hi Hannes Welcome, hope you stay. I just love my Lada. It's kind of you do or you simply don't do Lada. These cars is a breed of their own, like a Landy Series. You cannot compare it to another car. The best I can say is that I enjoy the Lad, but I do drive another bakkie, ride a DS Bike and a small Road Bike and also a Bicycle. I enjoy them all.
Kind regards Stephen

Hi Hannes Parts are not an issue. I pulled the gearbox on Rusti today fearing broken gears etc after a sudden strange noise. The good news is that it is a clutch release bearing. I phoned Queen at 16h40 to get me a clutch (R1035.00 inc VAT). I am fetching it in Port Shepstone tomorrow before 9am. It would be fair to say that the spares availability on Normal wearing items are no worse than say a Peugeot.
Most of the replacement part threads are where guys are looking at replacing agent only parts (water pump etc) with after market parts.
Having recently needed a few spares for my 206 HDI most of the non service parts are agents only.
Regards Vincent
